    1. [ORWASCO] Death Records
    2. Janet Lyman
    3. I am trying to locate a death record for a John Sharkey. I have information that I am not sure is reliable that he died in The Dalles, Wasco, Oregon in 1904. Are there any online records I can check. I couldn't find anything on Ancestry. I am new to this list and would certainly appreciate any help anyone is willing to offer. I am not familiar with records or the best way to approach genealogy research in Oregon. Thanks again, Jan

    2. Shelley Cardiel
    3. I've "rescued" an old school class photograph taken by the Gifford Studio in The Dalles, Oregon. The photograph includes the identification of 38 or the 39 students and advisor are pictured in the photograph. All appear to be in their early teens at the time the photograph was taken so I'm guessing it was taken between 1915-1920. The list of those identified in the photograph is as follows: Elza YOUNG Chester PHILLIPS Loyal KIRK Esther WATSON William MYERS Frank FRIZZELL Kenneth COOPER Karl HANSEN Clarence ELLIS Marlin FOX Vernon CHRISTMAN Claire BARNETT Eugene WRIGHT Alice CARROL Anna SKELLY Bessie MCCULAM Arleath CHARLTON Margaret MCLEOD Goldie THOMPSON Lillie WILSON Opal COLEMAN Vale WOOFRED Margaret BONNEY Rosalie SCHERRER Florence WILLIAMS Esta MILLER Elizabeth BURGETT Charlotte NEWHOUSE Dorothy LONGMIRE Marie RUMSEY Myrtle CARLSON Margaret GATES Irene PRENTISS Gladys LLANDLY Rose SEGUI Norma SEGUI Beatrice EDMUNSON Miss NOREN (advisor) Based on limited research I was able to locate information on many if not most of those identified in the photograph indicating that most were born between 1899 and 1903 with most being born and died in the State of Oregon. I am hoping to locate someone from one of the families so that the photograph can be returned to their care. If you are a member of one of these families or know someone who might be, please contact me. Thank you, Shelley

They came from Iowa in about 1854. I don't know if Nancy died on the trail or right after they got here. They settled in Oregon City, Clackamas Co., Oregon and Franklin remarried a widow Sarah Davey Whitten and they had 6 more children. So between the 2 of them they had 11 children. Franklin had 2 with Nancy and Sarah Davey Whitten had 3 with her 1st husband and then they had 6 together. Franklin is my Great Great Grandfather. My direct line is through Franklin and Sarah Davey Ford. Lisa Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: sherryk180 Surnames: Miller Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.oregon.counties.wasco/776.5/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Miller, a rail station on the S bank of the Columbia River E of the mouth of the Deschutes River in section 24, T2N, R15E, was named for the 1860 pioneer Thomas Jefferson Miller family. Same for the hamlet of Miller, Miller Bridge, Miller Island and Miller School. Sarah, daughter of Frank and Eliza Ford, crossed the plains in 1855 and married Thomas J. Miller when she was 17. Miller was a volunteer in the Cayuse War of 1856, and was a steamboat captain between The Dalles and Oregon City. Shortly after, Miller took charge of the ferry operating a half-mile upriver from the mouth of the Deschutes River and, with Silas Smith, built the old toll bridge, Miller's Bridge, in 1864, for many years the only bridge. Miller livestock grazed along the rivers and on Miller Island, reached by sail ferry and by fording on horseback opposite the mouth of Fulton Canyon. They also lived in Grass Valley Canyon for a while, then on Chamberlain Flats E of Rufus in Washington, and a second stint ! at Deschutes / Miller before going to Wenatchee. In their later years they returned to Miller and he died in 1906. The toll-free highway bridge was built in the 1920s. Not a trace remains of the fruit and vegetable gardens, irrigation water wheels, wheat warehouses, railroad section houses, the store, Miller school or the homes at Miller. Miller descendants were dislocated by progress twice, first by construction of the Columbia River freeway and related railroad relocation, and second by establishment of Deschutes State Park.
