    3. Sorry I don't have any of the names you mentioned. Have data base of 800 Holts. First one is Jacob Marion born in Spence In. & then they go to Missouri & as far south as Climax Springs. The Roberts family I don't have any information on them except my family. TheVincents start with Francis Marion Vincent m. Callie Frazier. They raised their family in Osceola Missouri. They are buried at Cottage Grove Oregon. Does any of that fit.? McNeal 1969 page 1: Nathan Olney, a California gold miner from Iowa; first merchant of The Dalles, Charter member of Wasco Lodge; had came to The Dalles in 1848 and build a cabin on the banks of Mill creek at 105 W 2nd, which became the 1st store of The Dalles. In 1850 Major Tucker demanded that he vacate his store and he moved west to Chenowith creek, near the Westgate Shopping Center where Highway 30 crosses Chenowith and built another log cabin store (2nd at The Dalles) and continued to trade with the soldiers, Indians and emigrants. Resolved that in his death Masonery has lost a warm friend and strong advocate, and society an enspiring citizen. Resolved that these resolutions be spread upon the records of this Lodge and a copy be furnished friends of the deceased. (Besides being the first business man of The Dalles Nathan Olney was a Yamima and Cayuse Indian War Veteran and a Scout for the 1865 wars on the Oregon coast where he received an arrow wound in the head, the arrow remaining imbedded in the skull. His horse stumbled and he fell on his head driving the arrow into the brain and causing his instant death. He was a "squaw man" and lived with the Indians and is buried at Ft. Simoe, Washington and has many descendents on the Yakima Indian reservations, two grandsons who appeared recently on a Wasco Pioneer program. Nothing is dedicated to his memory in The Dalles. 3. One Book I think (every) researcher should read is called Told by the Pioneers You might find some thing in it even Onley who knows ;-) Its a 3 volume set of interviews taken basically from people who had gone on the WA but also about those in Oregon. There is an index in these books, but it don't index the names in these interviews Like I was looking for Matney and it was in a story by Roundtree , so this is why I say read the whole book as a novel and you might leanr more than you barganded for I know I did I was caught up in a day dream like I had been reading something by Mark Twain, but this is real life in these books and sugested reading before many others . Best shot for any beginned, and those who are more experianced and have not read these, you will not know what you missed untill you do . Another fun book for those who are doing indian research try Bartrams Travells , this was another really interesting book to get you a few real good ideas on some perspectives. I own In Their Own Words Warriors and Pioneers, its an interesting book too . Dan

    3. I am the Klamath Co Gen Web CC I will also join in here I have a few Oregon Books and Pioneer Books. I also go to the Salem Archives alot and can get death certs and other documents that are there . One thing that a lot of people dont seem to put together is when these people traveled these trails together they were more that (surnames) but people all acting together , friends family ,some intermarried on the trail too etc: You might not find what you are looking for under your names but undersome one else's who might have wrote about it, the ladies were good for Diary's . I will list my books later for now 1 I have is a 1918 printing of the Oregon Trail , this is still considered a very old version , but it concorded through reference's of those days when things were fairly still fresh , but its still 75 years past the fact , but there is NO copyright on this book and I can post from it. I also have permission to post from (Ruch) and any book by Percy T Boone Publihers about Oregon Will be showing on my website I also have a lot of relations from the Oregon trails too, Wasco and GIlliam that I can use help with so I will trade conversations in these lines . I also founded the Stayton=Santiam Canyon Genealogy Society mail me if you are interested. I have a digital camera and can take cemetery shots in the surounding areas, what I do is no charge, excetp for people to share the efforts of Genealogy &Genealogy History in the same manor , we here can do for you, and you there can do for us, that makes a wheel and we are the spokes, genealogy is the hub . We need to revolved for each other in the feeling its all one effort to sort out history . I do Klamath Co, I live in Marion near Salem , and hope to work with Wasco and others too <G> There are 100's of names and all most 2000 links on my website, I am now making a picture page to share picture's with those who ask , so its like I have a picture you all might want I put it on my web site, then every one just goe's there and gets it . 1. [ORWASCO] The Name Was Olney
    2. Hello Pete, I've been meaning to buy the book "Tha Name Was Olney", by Roscoe Sheller. I had the opportunity to read the first couple pages, but that was it. It's written like a romance novel from what I seen, & has some great history in it. The author sounds as though he was well acquainted with my GGG Grandfather Nathan Olney, but he missed one key factor in the book, Nathan first wed Annette Hallicola's Mother, Ehatinsh or Ahatin. Ehatinsh was widow to Chief Cha-la-let Yakaskiler, of the Wasco tribe, the Chief was also the Father to Annette. Nathan & Ehatinsh had a son, my GG Grandfather, Charles Cyrus Olney, April 24, 1853. Nathan took both women to Yakama Indian Reservation, along with Annete's sister Jeanette. Nathan had a soft spot for widowed women, as he was also briefly married to Mrs. James Sinclair, whose husband, James Sinclair, was with Nathan when he died in battle, in 1857. Can hardly wait to buy the book, thanks for reminding me ; ) All my best to you & yours! Teresa (Spokane,Wa.) Thank you sincerely for the offer! I have a few books, none are of Oregon, but many people listed had a direct impact on Oregon & Washington State. I too will do look-ups in these I have: "WHO ARE YOU & WHO AM I", By Daniel Hoptowit OLNEY, published Nov. 1991. The more recent families listed are from the Yakama Indian Reservation area, in Washington State. Has a fairly complete listing of many families wed into the Olney family. Traces lineage from 1635 to later 1900's, from England to Oregon & Washington State, "A CHRONICLE OF MY FAMILY", By Lucile R. OLNEY, the beginning of this book has "A Genealogy Of The Descendants Of Thomas Olney, by James H. Olney, published 1889. Covers 1066 to 1985. "EARLY RHODE ISLAND", 'A Social History of the People', by William B. Weeden, A. M. published 1910. This book gives a detailed description of the making of Providence, R.I., & the controversy that arose from Massachusetts all the way to King Charles II. Lists the thirteen families who were proprietors of Providence, RI, plus several other families. I will accept attached files if it makes it any easier for you to send. Thank you ever so much for the offer! All my best to you & yours! Teresa (Spokane,Wa.) 2. Hi Lura, Can you check your book to see if there is any mention or pictures of Isaac C. Matney, his wife, Margaret E. Matney or any of their children? I would like to know if you have any information on OLNEY's in these books. I don't think any would be in the year book. 3. Christine, Thank you for your generosity. I had/have a few folks there. Wm P Stone, a Civil War vet, died at Dufur, 1938 in his nineties. some of his descendants are Hancocks and Creels , maybe they would have had kid or kids at the high school, but I suspect there must have been a closer one to the Dufur area even for those years. I remember finding a book like these below when I was up there and spent an afternoon at the library (not far from the courthouse) in The Dalles...nice woman genealogist there that day.. but then aren't all Oregonians?( other than a governor I seem to recall) ron At 08:57 PM 03/03/2000 -0800, you wrote: >>From Books we own, I inherited the following books from my late >mother-in-law.
