She is the daughter of Winifred Mabel Matney. She has told me all about her winning the Queen of the Fort Dalles Frolics in 1940's. Interestingly enough, I was searching for photos or newspaper clippings of this event to surprise my client and found your post. She does have photos of her mother on the wall. I love the photo. She was a beautiful woman. I know her whole family now too. In fact, I went to school with her daughter in 1st and 2nd grade. Did you know there is a third Winnie? (Winifred?) It is a name passed down. I know of three. Anyhow, my client has some memory loss due to vascular dementia. She is 89, but recalls plenty, especially about the past. :) But, her children could probably fill you in on much. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I know I've seen them. Hope they didn't go back to my grandmother's...I'll keep looking both here and there. I did find several photos of Clyde and Ophie's daughter Hazel Palmer...from when my grandmother visited the family during the summer of 1936...I'm attaching one of Hazel, age 8, the writing on the back indicates that the horse's name was Buzz! I also have a letter they sent my grandma later in 1936...two pages...I think Ophie wrote it. I could send you a scan if you like. I assume that you're a descendant of Clyde and Ophie? My great-grandmother (also named Hazel Palmer, born 1896) was Clyde's half-sister. Best wishes, Todd Mecklem Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Their daughter, Mary Ann, married Edward Wilson in 1844, probably after he was pardoned by the Queen, and they sailed for the Sandwich Islands on a whaling ship. She was pregnant and nauseous and the stench of the whales being rendered impressed her so that she told the story to her daughters and granddaughters for the rest of her life. I have two other kids listed for them: Winfield Scott and "Poor Little Willie" who apparently met with an early death. Mary Ann was buried in Los Angeles in 1901. Her daughter, Lauretta, married William J. Leezer, a tinner from Illinois, and they moved to Heppner, Oregon and had three kids -- Emery, Mabel America, and Willetta. Will died in 1897 and Lauretta took in boarders until Willetta married Earl Conser and she with them thereafter. The Consers had Kathryn Ann who married Charles Rector and had me and my brother Jerry. One of my cousins corresponded a bit with one of Mary Ann's brothers after he'd notified him of her death but we have lost track of all our Tasmanian relatives. Hi Constance, I am very interested in the Arthur and Millie Marvel as they may be a distant relative of surnames I have in the area. Please ask the submitter to put my name and email address down for any that inquire about this surname, particularly with info prior to 1900. Thanks!
