Might be helpful to other members of the list, also. Notes in the book about Pilot Rock Cemetery are: This cemetery is located on East Birch Creek Road. It is about one mile from town. It is well maintained and has a custodian. The records were being kept by Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Benthin when the survey was made in August 1994 by Martha Post and Karen Bopp. At Mountain Valley aka Gurdane Cemetery where my greatgrandfather, Samuel Caldwell is buried, their comments state there were a number of wooden markers that are illegible when the survey was done in September 1994 by Karen Bopp and Martha Post. One of my aunts always told me that Samuel's brother, Putnam Caldwell, was also buried at Gurdane, so I assumed his marker was not readible or had been destroyed. However, he died in the early 1900's in Umatilla County and I was able to get his probate file from the Oregon Archives on line and found his remains were shipped to Carson, Mills County, Iowa, for burial. At that time many people had their own little plotts. My grmo. was burried in Lewis Co. Wa in abt 1905 on property belonging to an Uncle. Then later in abt 1924 all were moved to a cem in the nearest town. I have found where my grma is now but no dates and I still have not found her death date. Only from what other family members have said. I'd find out who the other Stanley's were if related. Also check some land any of them have bought.
