Surnames: Thompson, McRae, McDougall, Edtl, Burns Thomas W. (Tommy) Thompson, 78, who served as an extension agent in Sherman, Wasco and Umatilla counties for 30 years, died October 10, 2002. He was born May 27, 1924 in Pendleton (Oregon). He served with the 87th Infantry Division in World War II. He was a professor emeritus and professional agronomist and was employed by the Oregon State University Extension Service. He retired in 1977, and after that he organized Staff of Live Consultants, an agriculture consulting company. He was a member of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity at Oregon State University and was a member of the Oregon Wheat League Association, Lions, Masonic Lodge, Rotary and Kiwanis. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church. Survivors include his wife, Catherine Ann (McRae), whom he married in August 1946, Portland; a son, Ken Thompson, Helix (Oregon); daughters, Pati McDougall, Federal Way, Washington; and Judy Edtl, Sherwood (Oregon); a sister, Jeanine Burns, Stockton, California; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be Saturday, October 19 at Bishop Funeral Chapel in Pendleton at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in the Olney Cemetery in Pendleton. Memorials may be made to the E.R. Jackman Foundation or the Oregon State University Scholarship Fund.
