Funeral services were Saturday, Jan. 26 in the Munselle-Rhodes Funeral Home Chapel, Milton-Freewater with Rev. Claiborne Erickson officiating. Burial was in the Milton-Freewater Cemetery. Pallbearers were Charlie Potter, Hal Phillips, Rich McCloy, Paul Billings, Gene Vernon, and Frank Fox. Mr. Lewis was born Dec. 5, 1923, in Smethport, N.C., to Jesse and Rhody Manuel Lewis. He attended schools and and was raised in West Jefferson, N.C. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps. During World War II, and later re-enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, serving for eight years. Mr. Lewis married Marilyn Lamm in Weston, Ore., Sept. 25, 1958. His various truck driving jobs allowed him the opportunity of traveling, which he enjoyed. He drove for Ready Mix Sand and Gravel in Milton-Freewater for 11 years, retiring in 1984 due to ill health. Mr. Lewis was a member of the First Baptist Church, Milton-Freewater. Survivors include his wife, at home; two sons, Kevin Lewis of Milton-Freewater, and Kyle Lewis of Eugene; one daughter, Kelly Lewis of Milton-Freewater, five brothers, Eugene Lewis, of West Jefferson, Everett Lewis of Jefferson, N.C., Coy Lewis of Lenore, N.C., James Lewis of Willoughby, Ohio and Gwyn Lewis of Enterprise; and three sisters, Ollie Lewis of West Jefferson, Ettie Arnold of Enterprise, and Clydie Dippel of Clinton, Ohio.
