Subject: Re: AUGUSTUS BONNEY WASCO COUNTY OREGON I used to stop there at the restrant and get a BIG hamburger in 1950's 60's when the Patterson Ferry was still running. No I now live in Roy, Wa. My dau and family have lived in Standfiels since she was abt 16 and got married. All my gr kids, (2) and their families are still in Hermiston area. I used to work in restrant at Bucks Corner on old hy 30 close to Standfield in 1950's earl 1960's. Then the freeway came and out went the old restrant. i see it was moved to hy 395 and used for snak bar etc. at the old I think car races etc north of Hermiston for a while but not in use now. That is how I knew all those ranchers up and down Butter Creek Hy towards Heppner.' I can't think of many of their names but would recognize them if seen or heard. The Old Kilkinney Judge in Pendelton had a bro who was around there . Never had been married. He asked me to marry him one day and I told him he was kidding. He said NO he Wasn't and he meant it but I didn't. As it ended up for me, i think i should have. That was in 1964 I think. He was a nice guy. The Bonney 's I knew, a guy was Omer(ar) Bonney who was the auctioneer. His wife, Betty died of canncer when their youngest boy was abt 4 yrs old. abt 1960. They were nice people. Had an older son in High school then' I bought a Horse from him for my dau. in abt 1960. She rode it in 4 H and at the fair doing figure 8, the horse went to do her figure 8 after practicing a lot before, she just whipped around there and cut the Judge right out of there. He was too close to her path and far from the fence. Omer(Omar) just let her do it again and everybody roared with laughter. Elaine thought it was great. to get to do it again but the judge got out of there. It is amazing what subjects bring out the history. A little of my PORTER history and I know the HALE contact in Umatilla. My Hales were there but there is another HALE family with farms today on the way to Echo, Oregon. http://www.lineages.com/usa/OR OREGON COUNTY LINEAGES Laura of Seattle, WA GALLOWAY, HALES, GIBSON, PORTER, TURNER, FINE, JOHNSON, TEEL, KIRBY, ALEXANDER, POLLARD, BATEMAN -----Original Message----- From: James & Meredith DeBuse [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Thursday, September 07, 2000 3:46 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: Delayed Birth Certificates I saw this and decided to relate our family's story abt a delayed birth cerificate: My grandmother, Iva Porter Pierce (of the Benton Co Porters) was born in 1879. She never had a birth certificate. When it came time for her to file Social Security in 1944, she had to get a delayed birth certificate to show proof of age. She had her father John F. Porter, in his "90's" attest to the fact that she was born in Benton Co, OR, in 1879. Her delayed certificate stated this. In the 1880 Census, she show's as an 8 mo old child, living in Umatilla County, OR. Her mother and father were married in Umatilla Co in 1876. They were married in the home of the bride's parents, Harrison and Cynthia Hale, the bride Mary Angel had lived in Umatilla Co with her mother and step father, for almost 10 yrs. All evidence shows that their dau Iva, was born in 1879 in Umatilla Co instead of Benton Co. Her father being in his "90's" probably didn't remember where she was born, and when she asked if she was born in Benton Co, he said yes. Delayed birth certificates are legal but be sure and check out the birth place from other records. The relatives they ask to be wittnesses of the birth may not remember.
