    1. ANDREWS birth in Umatilla 1888
    2. Lara
    3. According to her death certificate and second marriage record, my ancestor Callie Donia ANDREWS was born in Umatilla, Oregon Jan 20, 1888. Her parents were Henry A. and Josie ANDREWS. They were parents to several more children, all of whom were apparently born in Missouri, some before and some after Callie's birth. I don't know why they were in Oregon or what his profession was. I know they were quite poor, probably farmers. Callie's daughter has searched for newspaper announcements in the Oregon papers, and our letters to the county have been bouncing off the "no birth records at that time" wall. I suspect the Andrews family were church-going Christians of unknown denomination. I would like to know how to search Umatilla church records for 1888. Thanks for any help. 2. Maxine Wilton
    3. hello Storm, Your story reminds me of a Wedding that was in 1950's in Standfield , Umatilla Co Ore.Abt 1954/6. This couple, Jim and Laura, ( memory of name) got married one day in Standfield, or . The guys made him wheel her down the main drag in a wheel barrell after. they also put limburger cheese on the manifold or rather i think it was the head of their car while the wedding was going on. When they left for their Honeymoon, they didn't get very far due to the awful smell. later they even had to get rid of their car as I remember as the smell all through upholstry etc, airing out didn't get it out even tho they changed the head etc on car. maybe someone else may have remembered this incident as i am sending it to Umatilla Co. Or list. We had lived in Ordinance , Ore. at the Army depot housing project before it was turned into a Pig Farm by I think Sen Hansen ?,, at the time as they also lived there after marriage. 3. Hi Jon, Here's what I found in the Oregon Death Index, 1903-98. This looks like it could be your Alvira. I hope it helps. Name: Clark, Alvira County: Portland Death Date: 20 Sep 1932 Certificate: 2439 Spouse: Ira Happy New Year, Judy McIntyre

    1. Alvira C. SAUNDERS DAVIS CLARKE
    2. Jon Saunders
    3. Hi Listers, I am looking for more information on the subject, her husbands, and descendants. Alvira was born on a farm north of Milton, Rock Co., Wisconsin 14 May 1853 the third child of Gardner and Sarah (Crosby) Saunders. In the 1870's she married Unknown Davis. Who was he? Where were they married? When did he die? Where is he buried? In the 1880 census she is the widow Davis, housekeeper in the Berlin, Green Lake Co., Wisconsin residence of Ira Delos Clarke, age 49, a retired, divorced, clergyman, probably Seventh-day Baptist. He had two children by his first wife (who???) Ira D, born abt 1869 and William E. born abt 1873. By 1895 she had married Ira, Sr. and moved to South Dakota. She is listed as Mrs. Clarke of Leola, South Dakota in her father's obit at that time. Ira, Sr. died there in Leola. When? Buried where? Why was he there? As a clergyman? Alvira was back living in the village of Milton, Wisconsin from 1907 to 1909 caring for her mother who died in 1909. The next record I have of Alvira is in 1926 in her brother Russel's obit where she is listed as Mrs. Clarke of Pendleton, Ore. Why had she moved to Pendleton? To be with one of the children of Ira? Did she ever have any children of her own? Did Alvira die in Pendleton? Buried there? Descendants there? Any additional information any of you can provide would be much appreciated. Does anyone have the census data for 1890, 1900, 1910, 1920 for the locations in which she was living? Jon Saunders

    1. RR Train Yrs to retirement.
    2. Maxine M Wilton
    3. Hello, Well, since I just read Carmen's story about her father's life to retirement on the RR from yrs of over the Blue Mountains with the Train he engeniered, I would like to tell a little about my experience. I have a dau only and she married my great -son -in -law in abt 1962. He had started work on RR out of Hinkle and made runs to Yakima, Spokane etc, when he was 17 yrs old. Well, he just retired last spring and I must have him take time to write down his expierences in the , I think abt 42 yrs with the samer RR. as a brakeman mostly. I remember when they were young and had the my two little granch. He was on what they called the Extra Board, and didn't get to work steady so things were very lean and mean for them for a number of yrs. I was single for some time and used to take bags of groceries to them and buy cute little dresses for the grdau and things for the granson. After he had time in and had braved the hardships of it he got steady work and stuck it out and now can relax and enjoy his rewards. Even tho he is the only son in law I have ever had as my dau was the only child I was lucky enough to have, I still say and would say that you couldn't ask for one better. My dau some yrs back decided to get a job with a retirement to be earned with it and will also be able to retire next yr. This yr she has the distinktion of being picked as best of the yr in her field for the state of Ore. and I am greatly proud of her accomplishments. She always liked to watch Space shows on T V and scary Halloween movies at Oct time so this job was one that didn't upset her as it would some people. I also hope she decides to write down her expierences within the scope of privacy she would maybe have to do, and leave for the family she has and also maybe others to learn from or otherwise enjoy. A model family I would say. Wageing through many sad times as well as tramatic and happy times as all of us have had to do. I just can't praise each of them enough for their life together. I only wish mine could have been as sweet and eventful for the better. I hope in some small way that I was able to contribute something to their happiness and continued life together. over the years. My LOVE and God's Blessings I wish to both and they will know who they are. Mother and Mother -in -law. [email protected]
