My grandmother and grandfather lived in Adams, OR, when I was born. I visited there many times. Their address was PO Box 64, Adams Oregon. We used to walk to Jessie's over the river on a bridge to get milk that came straight from her cow. Grandma took me to outdoor wrestling matches. I remember teepees along the road. I would love to learn more about my grandparents and about Adams OR. Sue Brown

I am researching the STANLEY and PERRY families. Particularly Oliver H. Stanley and his wife Nancy A. HATFIELD. He died in 1885, and she in 1875. I have very little info on either, but both lived in pilot Rock. Thank you.
Hello to everyone on this holiday for some: I am researching McNemar, Berry, Hubbard, Fannan, Peck, Noe, McDaniels; specifically researching the families of: Campbell Berry d. 1878 Salonah or Salenah Berry d. 1889 wife of Campbell Berry Hattie J. Berry b. 1879 daughter of Salonah or Salenah Berry J. D. Peck, father of Salonah or Salenah Peck Berry Hannah J. Hubbard b. 1886 (approx.), whose property was sold to a Mr. Moulton John Hubbard, father of Hannah J. Hubbard A.J. Noe, guardian of Hannah J. Hubbard W. D. McNemar and Hattie J. McNemar McDaniels, guardian of Hattie Berry All lived in or around Umitilla County, Oregon, in the 1870's, 1880's, 1890's. I have a little to share about these ancestors, and their guardians, and a lot to learn. Anything at all that about them; until one month ago, I only had the names W. D. McNemar and Hattie J. Berry McNemar, so everything will be new. Thank you very much for taking the time to read this. Rob [email protected]
Hi Kathy, Thank you for your response. The coincidences between our WOOD lines are interesting. My g-grandfather, Rev./Dr. Jesse Lee WOOD was reportedly born 1839 in MS. However, I've never been able to prove this. He doesn't show up anywhere until age 21 yrs. on the 1860 Census in rural Dyer Co., TN. Nothing is known about how or exactly when Jesse came from MS to TN or about his parents/siblings other than he claimed to have had three brothers (names unknown) that fought for the CSA in the War while Jesse fought in the 7th TN Cavalry Reg., US Army. I have a lot of info. on Jesse after age 21 including military, Census, etc., but nothing on early years or his family. Jesse moved from TN to MO, then to KS and finally to OR ca. 1891 with his 4th wife Mary Eliza "Molly" (Hathaway) WOOD and their daughter, Jessie Lee WOOD b. 18 Nov 1890 in Cherryvale, Montgomery Co., KS and I believe established a dental office in Ashland, Jackson Co., OR. They had a daughter, Bessie M. "Betty" WOOD b. 9 Feb 1894 in Ashland. Soon after, Jesse left for Ardmore, OK without the family and opened a dental office their with his son by his 2nd marriage, Dr. Charles Franklin "Frank" WOOD (my grandfather) and resided there until his death 18 Oct 1896. Jesse had two other sons besides my grandfather by his 2nd wife and all three boys, who grew up in TN, moved to TX ca. 1890. My father, Jesse Lee WOOD,II was born in Ardmore, OK 21 Aug 1899. However, ca. 1902, I believe my grandfather, Dr. Charles Ffranklin "Frank" WOOD divorced his 1st wife and took his son Jesse to Caruthersville, Pemiscot Co., MO where he established a dental office. He married a second time to a Leal ???? ca. 1908 and they had a son, Elliott Charles WOOD b. 13 Jul 1909 in Caruthersville. Later they moved to Pendleton, Umatilla Co. OR where my grandfather established a dental office. They had a 2nd son, Charles Franklin "Frank" WOOD b. 3 Dec 1922 in Pendleton. However, shortly after he divorced and returned to Caruthersville, MO where he reopened his dental office. Then ca. 1925 he married his 3rd wife, Belle ???? and eventually relocated his dental office to Blytheville, AR. This is a rough outline of my WOOD Family connections to OR. Let me know if this triggers anything. If you happen to run across any connections or info. regarding any of the above I would appreciate hearing from you. Thanks! Best rtegards, Jesse Lee "Jack" WOOD,III Powell, OH (Formerly from TX) [email protected] P.S. I have a lot of WOOD Family in TX but this is after 1890 and I know them all. However, we have always wondered if Rev./Dr. Jesse Lee WOOD's father & siblings might have migrated from MS to TX ca 1840s since they don't appear in MS. BTW, the following are the names of Jesse's children in the order of their birth. Perhaps they could have been named after a parent or sibling of Jesse. Anna "Annie" WOOD Nathaniel Clark WOOD Charles Franklin WOOD Eugene Vernon WOOD Jesse Wood Hal Henry/Henry Clay WOOD Jessie Lee WOOD Bessie M. WOOD >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Kathy Metcalf wrote: Hi Jack, I saw your message for a census look-up and the answering message from Tony about your grandfather, Dr. Charles Franklin "Frank" Wood, and thought it seems to run along the same path my "WOODS" family does. They came from TN., to TX., then to OR. and I always wondered why they ended up here in Umatilla & Union Co., OR. Franklin is a name that also shows up in my WOODS family, but I don't know it they are connected or not as I don't really know if my grandmother had any relation in this part of the country. My great grandfather, Joseph Nelson Woods was born in Monroe Co. TN in 1864, moved to TX. (Wise and Lamar Co.) in the late 1880. His son William Frank Woods, worked for the railroad and ended up here , and his two sisters, Elizabeth, b 1895 and Ruth, b. 1906 came to live with him in 1910-14. My grandmother, Elizabeth married Roy Swart and they lived in Pendleton when my father Elmer was born in Pendleton in 1919. Can you tell me more about your fathers family and if you think there is any connection? I do know that there was a lot of my great grandfather's family who also went to TX. Thanks, Kathy Metcalf La Grande, OR.
Hello Pat, Thanks for the info. However, I don't see much possibility of a connection here. I believe that the following WOOD Family members who died in other locations would have been buried in or around the Pendleton, Umatilla Co., OR or possibly in Ashland, Jackson Co., OR area. Any help in locating their burial location and/or funeral home records would be greatly appreciated. 1. Charles Franklin WOOD b. 3 Dec 1922 in Pendleton, Umatilla Co., OR d. 16 Jan 1951 Edwall, Lincoln Co., WA (Walla Walla, WA resident who died in plane crash near Edwall, WA.) I feel certain he would have been burried in or around the Pendleton, Umatilla Co., OR or possibly in Ashland, Jackson Co., OR area. 2. Elliott Charles WOOD b. 13 Jul 1909 Caruthersville, Pemiscot Co., MO d. 16 Jul 1933 Yuma, Yuma Co., AZ (Ashland, Jackson Co., OR resident who died in car accident near Yuma, AZ) I feel certain he would have been burried in or around the Pendleton, Umatilla Co., OR or possibly in Ashland, Jackson Co., OR area. Can anyone help me find this info.? Many thanks! Hello Tony, Thank you for your response. We know all the family and I don't believe that there is any connection with your WOOD line; however, we have often wondered what brought my grandfather, Dr. Charles Franklin "Frank" WOOD (who was born in TN) and his 2nd wife, Leal WOOD from MO to Pendleton, OR. Perhaps it was a WOOD cousin? Frank & Leal had a second son, also named Charles Franklin "Frank" WOOD b. 3 Dec 1922 in Pendleton and I believe he grew up there. He was a pilot in WWII and was killed in a commercial plane crash 6 Jan 1951 near Edwall, WA. He never married. The older son, Elliott WOOD, grew up in Pendleton and graduated from Pendleton H.S. around 1927. Unfortunately, he was killed in a car accident near Yuma, AZ at age 24. My father, Jesse Lee "Jack" WOOD lived with them for a short time and also graduated from Pendleton H.S. around 1915. If you happen to run across any connections or info. regarding any of the above I would appreciate any help. Hello Listers, I would greatly appreciate a lookup for Dr. Charles Franklin "Frank" WOOD, b. 18 Mar 1871 in TN and/or wife Leal WOOD who were living in Pendleton, OR in 1920. They had a son, Elliott Charles WOOD, b. 1908 in MO. Thanks so much for your help. Regards, Jesse Lee "Jack" WOOD,III Powell, OH (Formerly from TX) [email protected]
can someone do a 1920 census lookup for William Clayborn Bostwick Pendleton , Umatilla Co. Or. i'm wanting his family?? Thank You- Pauline.
thank you Marge! This gets me started, not wanting to leave any stones unturned- i will check these Bostwicks out. thank you for you info and your time. Pauline.
My husband's grandmother was Etta Arvada Bostwick Williams Hill. She died in Milton-Freewater September 1928. Two of her survivors were uncles A. E. and W. E. Bostwick of Milton. You might start with the Milton-Freewater I.O.O.F. cemetery and see if either of the uncles are buried there and if there were any children of either of them. Etta had one brother who apparently stayed in Minnesota until 1887 when she (and I think her grandparents) moved to Oregon. Hope this helps. Looking for information in regards to WIlliam Clayborn Bostwick, who lived in or near Pendleton Umatilla Co until 1954,when he moved to Kelso Washington, there he died in 1962, a retired railroad employee. Not much is known of William, he was married several times -last spouse named LULU.- He had ( we believe) five orsix, children- at his death he was survived by his wife Lulu, son, John . in Chehalis Wash. >> a son. Ed living in Kelso Wash. a dau, Mrs. Rose Statford, living in Las Angeles >> a dau. Violet Traxel of Pendleton Ore. Any info would be most helpful. Thanks Pauline.
