    3. [OREGON] Message from Oregon State Archivist Resent-Date: Fri, 17 May 2002 13:29:53 -0600 Resent-From: [email protected] Date: Fri, 17 May 2002 10:50:50 -0700 From: Layne Sawyer <[email protected]> Reply-To: [email protected] To: [email protected] To our users: Today the Archives Division filed an amendment to the Oregon Administrative Rules that revises the fees we charge. When you review these fees, please understand that none of these increases apply to those of you who come to the Archives Building to do your research. In the past, our fees reflected our costs in supplies and equipment. Now they also include our staff costs. Because of the budget cuts the Archives has taken, we must recover some of our staff costs from the fees we charge. We determined these fees by careful study and analysis of the actual time it takes to perform the work, as well as costs in equipment, supplies and postage. Please direct your comments to me by e-mail at [email protected] or by mail at Archives Building, 800 Summer St. NE, Salem, Oregon 97310. A hearing on these rule changes has been scheduled for 10 a.m., June 19, 2002, at the Archives Building. Again, I regret that these measures are necessary and I thank you for your support and understanding. Roy C. Turnbaugh State Archivist Text of proposed rule amendment: 166-010-0016 Archives Division Fees (1) Ready Reference requests - no charge. 3. I am going to make a trip to Whitman College library to read microfilm next week. I will check the Walla Walla, Washington, paper and see if Jiney A. Frazier Curl is mentioned. Obits in that time frame don't tell the family members, but should mention who she was married to. Walla Walla is 15 miles from Milton-Freewater, Oregon. I don't believe Milton-Freewater papers are on microfilm at Whitman, but I will check and see. I think by 1913, births, deaths and marriages were required to be reported to the State of Oregon. You can go to the site below and see when they started recording them at state level. It will also give you the address and fees. U. S. 3. I have information on/am looking for information on these families: MCCLELLAN(D), Robinson G. m. Elizabeth DONALSON Scott County, VA (until abt 1855) Knox County, KY (~1855 --1883) Nolin/Echo, Umatilla County, OR (~1883) Robinson G , Elizabeth and three of the younger children were in Knox County, KY, for 1880 census. In 1883, his daughter Melissa Rosina and her husband, Richard Parks WALLACE, were in Carbon County, WY, where their fourth child was born. The next two children were born in Umatilla County. Two of Robinson's daughters married Richard A. DOZIER (son of William "Cap'n Billy") Dozier. First Sarah, in 1872, in Knox County, KY. After Sarah's death, and after Richard Parks WALLACE's death, Melissa Rosina married him in 1917, in Multnomah County, OR. (although they were both living in Clackamas County by then). William DOZIER had three wives, Marinda Jane DISNEY, Mary J. PAYNE, Elizabeth Grant CALDER. The first two marriages were in Knox County, KY, and the last in TN. Only Elizabeth came west. Besides Richard A. (mother Mary J PAYNE), a daughter, Sarah Holland (mother Marinda DISNEY) married George Fleming BURNETT in Knox County, KY, and by 1880 they were in Umatilla County, where their last three children were born: Charles Henry, Sarah Isabelle and "Maggie". By 1898, Sarah Isabelle was in Clark County, Washington, where she married William HIGDON. William DOZIER's children by Elizabeth CALDER were all born in Umatilla County; Mary Lenore, married Charles Edward DUPUIS in 1888 in Pendleton, Umatilla County. They had nine children, all born in the Pendleton area, as far as we know. I have almost no info on the other sons-- William Alexander and John Neil -- or his youngest daughter Elizabeth Virginia. The MCCLELLANs, DOZIERs and DUPUIS' all served the Nolin school board in one capacity or another in the period 1890-1910. Robinson G's daughter Margrette married Charles William PARROTT in Knox County, KY, where their children were born. They moved to Umatilla County at some point (probably 1883-1889). I will be in Umatilla County next week, looking at the country, looking for history and, as always, looking for dead relatives (although the live ones are more fun to meet!). I am Robinson G.'s 2nd great granddaughter, through his daughter Melissa Rosina and her first husband, Richard Parks WALLACE. Regards, Susan Wallace Masse

One of their children was born in 1867 in Oregon, listed as born at Beasley Saw Mill. Many of the family died in the 1878 Diphtheria Epidemic. The mill was burned down by Indians that same year but later. Sarah Catherine died 17 April 1878. William J. Beasley according to my information died 27 May 1878, I am not sure of this though. Only one daughter lived through this epidemic. I would really like to know where that saw mill was located. I will be in Pilot Rock this Saturday and hope to locate the grave of My great Aunt Sarah Pruner Beasley. Any help greatly appreciated. Shirley Combs
