Mr. Schroeder a native of Illinois where he was born Nov. 3, 1876, came to this country when a boy of eight with his parents. He married Dora Hudeman May 17, 1898 at the Hudeman ranch north of Pendleton. Survivors are sons John Schroeder, Pendleton, and Carlton Schroeder, of Los Angeles; daughter Mrs. Robert G. The East Oregonian June 10, 1958 Julia H. Kash Kash Dies Funeral service for Julia H. Kash Kash, 94, who died Tuesday at St. Anthony’s Hospital, will be Friday. Mrs. Kash Kash was born at Kamiah, Idaho and had resided in Umatilla County for 50 years. She was the daughter of the first minister ordained from the Nez Perce tribe at Lapwai, Idaho, the Rev. Robert Williams. Her family was the first generation of Christians from the Nez Perce tribe, according to Dr. J.M. Cornelison, Pendleton. Dr. Cornelison said Mr. Williams, the Rev. Deffenbaugh and the Rev. William Wheeler, by order of the old Idaho Presbytery, organized the Umatilla Church, now known as the Tutuilla Church, June 16, 1882. Dr. Cornelison said this was three years before the Presbyterian Church was organized on Pendleton. Mrs. Kash Kash was the first president of the Tutuilla Women’s missionary Society and was active in church work all her lifetime. Among survivors are a son, Sam Kash Kash, Pendleton, now a elder of the Tutuilla Church as was her husba! nd, the late James Kash Kash; daughters, Mrs. Ed Smart, Wamic, Oregon, Mrs. Jacob Mann, White Swan Wash., and many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mrs. Powers had lived in Pendleton from 1948 to1961, then moving to Milton-Freewater. She was born Dec. 26, 1898 in Burlingame, Kan. On Dec. 26, 1917, she married George A. Powers in Ottawa, Kan. For many years she worked at Harris Pine Mills in Pendleton, and also worked several years at the Eastern Oregon Hospital and Training Center. Her husband died in 1968. Mrs. Powers was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. Surviving are three daughters: Wilma Stiles of Pendleton, Mildred Helton, of Roseburg, and Bernice Hall of Moundville, Mo.; son Marlin Powers, Pendleton; sisters Emily Bracken, Mt. Vernon, Mo., and Mary Ellen Steinhouse, Fort Smith, Ark.; brother Jim Buttler of Mount Vernon, Mo.; 35 grandchildren and 67 great grandchildren. Nolf in 1863 –Lived There and in Nebraska Until 1889. Since Which Time the Family Has Lived in This City- Mother of Nine Children. Six of whom , With her Husband, Survive Her- Member of German Reformed Church. ____ Mrs. J.H. Nolf A pioneer of the city, died Sunday at 11 o’clock after a brief illness with complications following enlargement of the liver with which she was attacked six weeks ago. Mrs. Nolf was 65 years 11 months and 7 days old at the time of her death and leaves a husband, J.H. Nolf and six living children, all of whom will attend the funeral tomorrow. The children now living are as follows: John, Fred, Joseph, and Edward Nolf and Mrs. J.H. Moore and Miss. Emma Nolf. Fred had just left here for Seattle and came back Saturday evening to be at the beside of his mother, and Mrs. Moore, who resides in Spokane is expected to arrive in time to attend the funeral. Three children of the family have died. She was married to J.H. Nolf in Allentown, Pa., in 1863 and after residing there for a number of years, came to Nebraska, where they lived for a short time, coming to Pendleton in 1889, where they have since resided. She was a member of the German Reformed church. The funeral will be conducted by Rev. W.L. Van Nays, of the First Presbyterian church, at the Nolf home, at 10 o’clock, and interment will take place in Olney cemetery. No funeral notices will be issued. The news of his brother’s sudden death was received here Saturday evening by Ed Nolf, of the Alexander grocery store. Last evening the body of the dead man was brought to the city on train no. 2, accompanied by the father, John H. Nolf. At 4 o’clock this afternoon the funeral service was held from the Rader undertaking parlor, the service being conducted bt Rev. W.L. VanNuys. The funeral was under the direction of Integrity lodge No. 92, I.O.O.F., of which the deceased was a member. Joseph Nolf was 28 years of age at the time of his death. He had lived here for many years and was salesman in his brother’s stationery store on Court stret. He also served for s time as deputy game warden for this section and was well known.

W. The East Oregonian November 17, 1979 Des. W. Martin MEACHAM – Funeral for Des. W. Martin will be 2 p.m. Monday in Milton-Freewater First Christian Church. Interment will be at Milton-Freewater Cemetery. Friends who wish to pay their respects may call Munselle-Rhodes Funeral Home, Milton-Freewater, until 1 p.m. Monday. Martin died of a heart attack near his Meacham home Thursday. He was 66. He was born July 4, 1913 in Umapine to Bernard and Marie Martin. He attended schools there. He and Jewell J. Records were married March 29, 1940 in Lewiston, Idaho. Martin was a butter-maker from 1941 at Golden West Creamery in Pendleton. He and his wife then bought the Milton-Freewater Dairy Queen and operated it until retirement in 1975, when they moved to Meacham. Martin was a charter member of BPOE 2146. He is survived by his wife, at home; sons, Pat, of White Salmon, and Gary, of La Grande; his mother, Marie Martin, Milton-Freewater; sisters, Bernadine Geissel, Milton-Freewater, Laverne Jones and Betty Owsley, both of Seattle, Wash.; brothers, L.P. “Pat”, Seattle, and W.B. “Bus” of Walla Walla. There are four grandchildren. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association through Munselle-Rhodes Funeral Home in Milton-Freewater.
