    1. [ORUMATIL] Updated Oregon Archives information
    2. Pete Wasser
    3. Dear Rooters, The Oregon State Archives is pleased to announce the launch of a new searchable index. The Oregon Historical Records Index incorporates data that was originally found in three separate on-line indexes. The Genealogical Locator, the Portland Birth records and the Portland Death records are now combined and can be searched from one site. Additionally, the index has nearly doubled in size with close to 400,000 entries. Significant newly indexed records, such as the statewide delayed birth records which were transferred to the Archives from the Center for Vital Statistics, and the World War 1 personnel service records compiled by the War Historian, are now available on-line. Enhanced descriptions of the records have been included to help researchers identify what the records are likely to contain. You can view these descriptions by clicking on an entry from the list found at: http://arcweb.sos.state.or.us/banners/genlist.htm This index is created in large part through the efforts of volunteers who work on flattening, refoldering, and reboxing these original records and perform the data entry. Please visit the new index: http://genealogy.state.or.us Contact the Archives staff at [email protected] if you wish to request copies of the records. If you have comments about the new index please send emails to me directly at [email protected] Happy hunting. Layne Sawyer Oregon State Archives Source: [email protected]
