    1. [ORUMATIL] Admin Notice: Beware of E-Card from FriendGreetings
    2. Beth Perry Johnston
    3. This is a spam-generating scam that involves an invitation to pick up an "E-Card" from FriendGreetings.com. The card is supposedly sent by a friend. Once you get to the web site you are invited to install an ActiveX control and by doing so you give permission for the application to send similar mail to all names in your Outlook address book. The program then begins generating a spate of spam mail, including porn. Virus and related discussions are off topic for this list, so please don't try to discuss this here. If you wish to discuss it somewhere, you can subscribe to RootsWeb virus discussion group by sending email to [email protected] . You also can learn more about it at these web sites: http://www.sophos.com/virusinfo/articles/greetings.html http://www.cnn.com/2002/TECH/ptech/10/28/security.net/index.html . Because this technically is not a virus, some anti-virus programs have chosen to not treat it as such, so don't count on your AV program to protect you. As always, though, it's a good time to make sure your anti-virus protection is up to date. Beth Johnston, List Admin [email protected]

    3. Hi Judy, You are right the Article was from 1932 and the event happened in 1912. Just confirming what you had already figured out. It's a very good feeling when somebody writes and says that they've found their kin in one of my transcriptions. :) I actually picked that one up because I had done some look ups on WALLAN for someone a few months ago. So when I saw that as I had to copy it for them. Little tid bits like that help our ancestors be real to us. I have a friend in Minnesota who does the same for me. Those little things he sends are priceless! :) Have a great day, Heidi ----- Original Message ----- From: [email protected] To: [email protected] Sent: Tuesday, October 15, 2002 11:39 AM Subject: [ORUMATIL] Re: 22 Years ago This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list.
