Gayle, Thanks for offering to do this. Those of us who were early users of Rootsweb are accustomed to contributing a few dollars to help support the need for server equipment when the original founder had it. He would usually send out a message, usually around the Thanksgiving, requesting donations to help cover the cost of the growth it was experiencing. After the ROOTS series appeared on television the number of Rootsweb members exploded. When the big A offered to let him use their servers free of charge he naturally agreed. The number one reason the big A exists is to make money for their owners. It has changed ownership several times over the years and a few years ago the owners at that time decided to no longer support Rootsweb as it did not generate any money for them. Backups of data stopped and IT people who know nothing about genealogy began tweaking the search field making it awkward to find anything but current postings.
