The Dalles Daily Chronicle The Dalles, Oregon September 29, 1908 FINE OREGON FIR President of The Rock Island Railroad Says Fir Is Finest He Ever Saw President B. L. Winchell of the Rock Island railroad system was in the city a short time Saturday, coming from Portland in his special car accompanied by his wife and several friends. The car was attached to the Spokane Flyer Saturday night. Mr. Winchell saw the furniture at the Portland Commercial club which is of selected Oregon fir. He says he will hereafter have all the furniture of his passenger coaches made of Oregon fir, and that if E. H. Harriman is not careful he will be beaten in the race of procuring fine Oregon fir for coach finishing. Mr. Winchell says further that the Oregon fir is the finest he ever saw for interior finishing.
