I grew up not far from Montavilla...it was a small, tight-knit community of people. It was considered the "suburbs" of Portland in the 1940's when I grew up. Montavilla was a little community all to itself, seperate from Portland but now it has been absorbed by Portland and the name is only used in reference to a portion of Portland that has a seperate history of its own. Yes, there were fruit farms, dairies, all manner of farming going on in the Montavilla area until the mid-20th century. It was very fertile, rich soil. That soil is pretty much covered over with houses, roads and industrial firms now. As to your uncle Henry's wife, Rose Lily...there was a Lilly family in the Montavilla area. Perhaps Lilly is a surname. I knew a few of the Lilly family member and the women were always named after flowers. So, that might be a clue. I don't live close to the resources for research here in Multnomah county but, I do occasionally get downtown to the libraries. Perhaps there would be someone else who would do a look-up on this FREEBOROUGH family that lived in the Montavilla area. Doneva Shepard in Gresham, OR
