I am trying to find any information on the family of Byrne/Burns Hennenhofer.and Lewis , Rummel. My great grandmother was Sarah Byrne/Burns (from Ireland) Great grandfather is reported to be John ( or Tom) Sara's maiden name is debatable! I have a note saying " Mrs.Sarah Byrne, Mother of Mrs Joanne E. Hennenhofer, died Oct, 11, 1901 at the age of 65." .. I don't know if it was in Nebraska or Oregon ..but Portland, Oregon is where her daughter "Josephine.. "Josie" "Jo" or "Joanne" lived since the early 1900's.. "Jo" was born on the high seas mid trip from Ireland, 1871."Josie Burns" married William L. Hennenhofer Sept. 3, 1888.. Douglas Co.Omaha, Nebraska. William died Aug. 8, 1947, Multnomah Co. Portland Oregon. I cannot find any records for the death of great Aunt "Jo" Hennenhofer .. I have found the Sacramento Ca. Feb. 25, 1970..death record of their youngest daughter, Ruth M. Hennenhofer Lewis (she was married to Harold Lewis and had 3 children. Joan, Charles(?) and John(?and lived in Portland at least until the late 50's). I have sent a request to Washington Dept of Health for a search for "Aunt "Jo's" records. 1944 to 1954 to no avail..I will try again with a later range of years. A lady in Oregon checked up to 1970 for her name , after she found the record for Will Hennenhofer and she isn't showing up there.. If she died in Oregon.. I have to wait until it would be 50 yrs since her death.. which of course I am not sure of! The other daughter was Marion Hennenhofer married Geo. Rummel, (he worked for the Humane Soc. Seattle) and they lived at Mercer Island Washington all of my memory of them. They had a daughter, Dorothy. The importance of this death record of Josephine "Jo" Hennenhofer is monumental in my search for our Irish roots. The death certificate might have her exact date of birth and that would let me know when they were sailing, and possible that might lead to the name of the ship.. through the Nat. Archives (the on board births and deaths were reported back to the country of origin).. and hopefully lead us back to the area of Ireland that the family originated from.. Then we might find the son Tom Byrne who stayed behind when the family emigrated , 1871.. with the other 3 children, Mary Agnes, James, and my grandmother Kathleen R. Byrne and a soon to "be delivering" mother (Sarah) and her husband John? Tom? Byrne /Burns.. The name was recorded as Burns on many records , as the parents could neither read nor write. The common names of Byrne/Burns and Lewis make it very difficult. and even the somewhat rare name of Hennenhofer is not showing up anywhere! Can anyone look for obits or does anyone know these people? I think the Lewis children went to Catholic school.? in Portland. They were born in the late 30's to early 40's? Their father Harold Lewis last known address, was Carmichael California. That was when my parents visited him there in Aug. 1975. Thanks for these lists .. they are so helpful .. and thanks for the patience to read this long. story. any help or suggestions will be so very welcome. Patricia Gibbens. of Gig Harbor Washington.
