... > I have found the Sacramento Ca. Feb. 25, 1970..death record of their > youngest daughter, Ruth M. Hennenhofer Lewis (she was married to Harold > Lewis and had 3 children. Joan, Charles(?) and John(?and lived in > Portland at least until the late 50's). I poked around a bit, and found this on RootsWeb -- is this any connection to you: Ethel Helen Williams, nee Chandler, born 11/11/1904 Nebraska, mother's maiden name Hennenhofer, died San Bernardino County 12/20/1983, SSN#544-07-5706 (issued in Oregon) ... > If she died in Oregon.. I have to wait until it would be 50 yrs since > her death.. which of course I am not sure of! ... Umm, no. While death records less than 50 years old are "restricted", the only requirement for obtaining one (other than a date and $15) is stating that you are a relative. The indexes are available from 1903 up until the 1990's. However, there are several films in the series that are quite hard to read. I would not be satisfied with one person taking one look, and saying that she isn't there! If there is any chance at all that she lived in the Portland area, you should also check the Portland Newspaper Index, available at either the Multnomah County Library, or the Genealogical Forum of Oregon. This indexes all Portland newspapers from the 1850's up until 1984, and would show if she had an obituary published in any of the Portland papers during that time frame. It might also be worthwhile to check the Portland City Directories for her. If you are unable to find someone to who can do the above for you, you can also contact the Genealogical Forum of Oregon (see http://www.gfo.org/respol.htm) to have the above records checked ($10 charge for one hour research).
