    1. [ORMULTNO-L] Look up in Oregon
    2. Grandma's Desk
    3. Hi again, I would like to ask another favor.. Since my first message, scarcely 9 days ago.. I have , with the help of a "Genealogy Angel" who sent me the obituary of my cousin's husband (Harold Lewis) found the family and also the much sought after dates of birth and death of my great Aunt. sister of my grandmother.. Now I am seeking help in the search for an obit for her..and possibly her husband.. Josephine E. (or Joanne Elizabeth) nee Byrne born on the high seas July 8, 1870 .. mid trip from Ireland. She died at a nursing home in Van. Wa. Dec. 31, 1960.. having lived many years in Portland, where her husband William L. Hennenhofer died Aug. 8,1947 .. He was born Nov. 6, 1866. She is buried, at Lincoln Memorial Park .. Portland Oregon. Maybe great Uncle "Will" is there too? Raised and married in Douglas Co.Omaha Nebraska, they migrated to the Washington and then the Portland, Oregon area..early 1900's where they lived until Will's death and then great Aunt "Jo" moved to Mercer Island , Wa.. to live with a daughter Marian Hennenhofer Rummell.. I wonder if the deaths could have been reported in the Oregonian newspaper.. I hope that an obituary might have detail on her family , Byrne. Once again any help would be very appreciated.. "L" subscriber "Linda" is the one who found the afore mentioned Obit of Harold Lewis for me.. and started this wonderful, long dormant, ball rolling.. I have been able to reestablish contact, on telephone and "online" with the children of that family.. and forwarded the Obit of their father to them.. It is great! Thanks again for the "L" and also any available help.. Patricia of Gig Harbor , Washington

    1. [ORMULTNO-L] Mark Baldwin found!
    2. After having a newspapter eroneously print that my great uncle, Mark Baldwin was buried in Willametter National Cemetery I found him today with the help of all you listers and the nice people at Caldwells Colonial Mortuary that he is actually buried in Riverview Cemetery. The mortuary had all the information on microfilm but the lady copied it all down and called me a second time to give it all to me. I then called Riverview Cemetery to see if his wife was there too and got some information on her too. I now have enough information to send for both their death certificates and also have the first name of my elusive Ggrandfather Charles Baldwin. Thank you all for your generous help. Now, can anyone tell me what Scout Young Camp No. 2 is? Mark's obituary states that he was of member. Also if he was a detective would I assume that he was with the Portland PD? Sally Chino, CA

    2. In a message dated 06/13/2000 12:08:50 AM Pacific Daylight Time, Pat_Palmer@email.msn.com writes: << I found the obit for Mark Baldwin. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ THE OREGON JOURNAL, TUESDAY, DECEMBER 15, 1959 MARK BALDWIN Funeral for Mark Baldwin will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Trinity Christian Church. Burial will be at Willamette National Cemetery. Arrangements will be by Colonial Mortuary. Mr Baldwin, 88, of 22 SE 16th Ave., was a veteran of the Spanish American War and had lived in the community 40 years. he had worked as a detective and was a member of Scout Young Camp No. 2. He died at his home Wednesday. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Jennie E. Baldwin, and two sisters, Mrs. Mary McGregor of Miami Beach, Fla., and Mrs. Nelle Black of Washington, Pa. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Willamette National Cemetery 11800 SE Mt. Scott Blvd. Portland, OR 97266 503-273-5250 >> I was thrilled to get this Obit this morning but when I called the cemetery to see what additional information they might have, they went through their records and have no Mark Baldwin buried in that cemetery. Is it possible that he was never buried there? His wife is not buried there either. We tried alternate spellings but came up with nothing. Could it be possible that a National Cemetery would be full at the last moment and he had been buried elsewhere? I also need help on the date of death. The Obit was on Tuesday, December 15, 1959. It then states that the funeral will be on Monday but no date is given. That would make that Monday to be Dec. 21st. It further states that he dies at his home Wednesday which is this Obit was on Tuesday that would be the December 9th. I was not aware that bodies were kept for that long before burial unless in a climate where the ground would be so frozen as to necessitate a later burial. In that case the date of burial may not have been posted in the obituary. Can anyone shed some light on this mystery? Is the Colonial Mortuary still in operation? Could someone please send me the address and phone number if it is in business so that I can check their records? Thanks. Sally Chino, CA

    1. RE: [ORMULTNO-L] Byrne/Burns Hennenhofer/Lewis

    3. ... > I have found the Sacramento Ca. Feb. 25, 1970..death record of their > youngest daughter, Ruth M. Hennenhofer Lewis (she was married to Harold > Lewis and had 3 children. Joan, Charles(?) and John(?and lived in > Portland at least until the late 50's). I poked around a bit, and found this on RootsWeb -- is this any connection to you: Ethel Helen Williams, nee Chandler, born 11/11/1904 Nebraska, mother's maiden name Hennenhofer, died San Bernardino County 12/20/1983, SSN#544-07-5706 (issued in Oregon) ... > If she died in Oregon.. I have to wait until it would be 50 yrs since > her death.. which of course I am not sure of! ... Umm, no. While death records less than 50 years old are "restricted", the only requirement for obtaining one (other than a date and $15) is stating that you are a relative. The indexes are available from 1903 up until the 1990's. However, there are several films in the series that are quite hard to read. I would not be satisfied with one person taking one look, and saying that she isn't there! If there is any chance at all that she lived in the Portland area, you should also check the Portland Newspaper Index, available at either the Multnomah County Library, or the Genealogical Forum of Oregon. This indexes all Portland newspapers from the 1850's up until 1984, and would show if she had an obituary published in any of the Portland papers during that time frame. It might also be worthwhile to check the Portland City Directories for her. If you are unable to find someone to who can do the above for you, you can also contact the Genealogical Forum of Oregon (see http://www.gfo.org/respol.htm) to have the above records checked ($10 charge for one hour research). Regards, Dave Reynolds

    1. [ORMULTNO-L] Byrne/Burns Hennenhofer/Lewis
    2. Grandma's Desk
    3. I am trying to find any information on the family of Byrne/Burns Hennenhofer.and Lewis , Rummel. My great grandmother was Sarah Byrne/Burns (from Ireland) Great grandfather is reported to be John ( or Tom) Sara's maiden name is debatable! I have a note saying " Mrs.Sarah Byrne, Mother of Mrs Joanne E. Hennenhofer, died Oct, 11, 1901 at the age of 65." .. I don't know if it was in Nebraska or Oregon ..but Portland, Oregon is where her daughter "Josephine.. "Josie" "Jo" or "Joanne" lived since the early 1900's.. "Jo" was born on the high seas mid trip from Ireland, 1871."Josie Burns" married William L. Hennenhofer Sept. 3, 1888.. Douglas Co.Omaha, Nebraska. William died Aug. 8, 1947, Multnomah Co. Portland Oregon. I cannot find any records for the death of great Aunt "Jo" Hennenhofer .. I have found the Sacramento Ca. Feb. 25, 1970..death record of their youngest daughter, Ruth M. Hennenhofer Lewis (she was married to Harold Lewis and had 3 children. Joan, Charles(?) and John(?and lived in Portland at least until the late 50's). I have sent a request to Washington Dept of Health for a search for "Aunt "Jo's" records. 1944 to 1954 to no avail..I will try again with a later range of years. A lady in Oregon checked up to 1970 for her name , after she found the record for Will Hennenhofer and she isn't showing up there.. If she died in Oregon.. I have to wait until it would be 50 yrs since her death.. which of course I am not sure of! The other daughter was Marion Hennenhofer married Geo. Rummel, (he worked for the Humane Soc. Seattle) and they lived at Mercer Island Washington all of my memory of them. They had a daughter, Dorothy. The importance of this death record of Josephine "Jo" Hennenhofer is monumental in my search for our Irish roots. The death certificate might have her exact date of birth and that would let me know when they were sailing, and possible that might lead to the name of the ship.. through the Nat. Archives (the on board births and deaths were reported back to the country of origin).. and hopefully lead us back to the area of Ireland that the family originated from.. Then we might find the son Tom Byrne who stayed behind when the family emigrated , 1871.. with the other 3 children, Mary Agnes, James, and my grandmother Kathleen R. Byrne and a soon to "be delivering" mother (Sarah) and her husband John? Tom? Byrne /Burns.. The name was recorded as Burns on many records , as the parents could neither read nor write. The common names of Byrne/Burns and Lewis make it very difficult. and even the somewhat rare name of Hennenhofer is not showing up anywhere! Can anyone look for obits or does anyone know these people? I think the Lewis children went to Catholic school.? in Portland. They were born in the late 30's to early 40's? Their father Harold Lewis last known address, was Carmichael California. That was when my parents visited him there in Aug. 1975. Thanks for these lists .. they are so helpful .. and thanks for the patience to read this long. story. any help or suggestions will be so very welcome. Patricia Gibbens. of Gig Harbor Washington.

    3. Hi Listers I am a new subsciber to the list and live in Cheshire, England. 1. RE: [ORMULTNO-L] FREEBOROUGH surname
    2. Doneva Shepard
    3. I grew up not far from Montavilla...it was a small, tight-knit community of people. It was considered the "suburbs" of Portland in the 1940's when I grew up. Montavilla was a little community all to itself, seperate from Portland but now it has been absorbed by Portland and the name is only used in reference to a portion of Portland that has a seperate history of its own. Yes, there were fruit farms, dairies, all manner of farming going on in the Montavilla area until the mid-20th century. It was very fertile, rich soil. That soil is pretty much covered over with houses, roads and industrial firms now. As to your uncle Henry's wife, Rose Lily...there was a Lilly family in the Montavilla area. Perhaps Lilly is a surname. I knew a few of the Lilly family member and the women were always named after flowers. So, that might be a clue. I don't live close to the resources for research here in Multnomah county but, I do occasionally get downtown to the libraries. Perhaps there would be someone else who would do a look-up on this FREEBOROUGH family that lived in the Montavilla area. Doneva Shepard in Gresham, OR

    3. Hi Derrick Do you know where in Multnomah county your ancestor lived? A lot of fruit farms were in Hood River (which is not Multnomah county but has LOTS of fruit farms.) But, back in the late 1800's his fruit farm could have been just about anywhere. If you can narrow down to a city it would help. Doneva Shepard, Gresham, OR (where there were a few fruit farms but more berries.)

    1. [ORMULTNO-L] John A. Killman - Columbia Construction Co., Bonneville Power, Carpenters' Union
    2. Mary Henderson
    3. Hi! I'm trying to gather information on my KILLMAN line. The Social Security application dated 12-5-1936 for my grandfather, John A. KILLMAN, shows his present employer as Columbia Construction Co. My records also indicate that he retired in 1962 after 25 years with Bonneville Power. I think these would be two separate employers, but not sure. Any ideas on what employment records I might be able to gather? I think Bonneville Power might have been a Federal government entity, but not sure. Also, it's my understanding that both John KILLMAN and his father, ALFRED KILLMAN, were members of the carpenters' union. Does anyone know if there might be records available through the union? Lastly, his SS application lists the number of his U. S. Employment Service registration card as 8425. I'm not sure what a U. S. Employment Service registration card is, and whether that might also be a source of info for me. Thanks much!! Mary __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? He served in the Spanish American War and somewhere either before or after, he moved to Portland, Oregon where he married a woman named Jenny. They had no children. He spent his life in Portland and died there. I last saw him about 1960 when he came to visit me in Anaheim, CA. I don't know when he died but probably in the 1960's. Both he and his wife would be buried in the Portland area. Is there a listing of cemeteries online for that area? I need to locate his place of buriel and date. Sally Chino, CA TOPDOG9051@aol.com
