Of course, there should probably be a death or a funeral notice - the classified ad type. Sometimes that has enough info to be useful. Those were not indexed, only the large news-type obituaries. I'm glad to hear they answered so promptly, though. 3. Grandma Try www.oregonian.com . On the left of the screen is a menu. Click on "News," then on "Obituaries." Then on the News screen, see "Obituaries" again on a right-hand menu. That will take you to a page that will allow you to check back 6 mos. on the Oregonian's obits. 3. Willamette National is available on-line by going to the following address: http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=cr&CRid=39562&CScn=willamette & I'll caution you, though, that to the best of the knowledge of Willamette National (last time we talked with them) this was an uncorrected copy of a file that is being scanned in Washington DC, but being sent back to Portland for proofreading. Apparently this hasn't been proofread. Only entry for a Hennenhofer is the following: James Henry Hennenhofer Birth: Jul. 24, 1896 Death: May. 7, 1951 PFC, US ARMY Burial: Willamette National Cemetery Multnomah County Oregon, USA Plot: A, 0, 2570 I don't know what this tells us, whether she's buried there, or whether they're only putting in the soldiers - not the spouses, I don't know. Portland obituaries are not available on-line, nor am I aware that are there any indexes. The Multnomah County Library website is at: http://www.multnomah.lib.or.us/lib/ You do not need a membership card to access the catalog. But, as I said, they don't have the obit index on-line. They may answer an email query by checking the index. Though I would try the Vancouver paper - it'd be likely to have more information, being a smaller town. 2. Hello Listers, I am looking for information concerning my Great Aunt who died in Providence Hospital in 1942. She was entombed in a vault at Portland Mausoleum. The funeral director was J. P. Finley & Son, 432 SW Montgomery St. This info is from her Death Certificate. Can anyone tell me where the Portland Mausoleum is or where I might find funeral records for her? Thanks. 2. In a message dated 10/7/00 11:50:32 PM Pacific Daylight Time, lworks@teleport.com writes: << Portland does not have number streets intersecting. >> Dear Lorraine, The listing I posted was exactly as it was written from the 1931 & 1933 Portland city directories... it appears that a lot of the streets and most of the house numbers changed sometime between 1930s and 1960s... for instance... I located my grandparents house in the 1933 directory which had the address as 727 N. Bank Street, but by 1960 it was 7607 N. Bank Street.... big change there.... Do you happen to know why they would list those to entries separately? They appear to be the same cemetery... I know the Multnomah Park one is definitely the one that currently is off 82nd... do you have anything on the history of the cemetery? did it start as one or get renamed? I find cemetery hunting really fascinating! morbid, I know :-) Say... you dont happen to have any info on a small cemetery located at the intersection of Lombard and Columbia, do you? Nothing I have found has a name for it... it has may GATTON stones in it.... I did find one listing in the 1931 directory for a "Central Cemetery - Columbia blvd 3 mi east of city" which may be it... but ??? The small cemetery is only about 1/2 block west of the RAMSEY lone tombstone.... Thanks Pat

2. Curry
3. Need a kind person to look in the Portland City Directory years 1950-1963 for Edith Ross (wid of George W). She was found in the 1950 Directory as Edith M Ross (Wid of George W) r. 1612 SW Columbia . This is the Edith I am looking for. I sent to the State Vital Statistics and recieved a death certificate but it was for the wrong Edith Ross. My Edith was not listed as family in her daughter, Golda Sanders, death notice in 1963 so I know she died between 1950 and 1963 and most likely in the Portland area since she lived there from 1920. I need a death time frame for her and the last directory or the last phone book for those years she is listed in would help a lot. Thank You, Phyllis pdc@thegrid.net

3. Hi Pat... I think you were probably remembering our conversations regarding Multnomah Cemetery, pioneer type cemetery. I think the address I had been given was SE 82nd and Holgate. Is that is the same vicinity you were talking about? I am looking for Myra Wilson, d April 1932. Will be grateful for any information.......supposedly she was buried by Jacobson Co. - who is no longer in business, and nobody seems to know where their funeral records are now domiciled. Thanks.... I am sorry, but I must have deleted your email address, and I dont recall which list you were on.... so I will post here in hopes you see this: While snooping thru the 1933 Polk's Portland, OR city directory I found the listing for "Multnomah Cemetery" . However, there was also a listing for "Multnomah Park Cemetery" right below it... They do appear to be the same cemetery, as you will see below.... Listing in 1933 Polks city of Portland, OR directory: Multnomah Cemetery 82nd SE corner 45th ave SE Multnomah Park Cemetery 82nd btwn 45th and 46th aves SE It may have been that the cemetery just expanded?? Anyone else on this list know?? But the addresses are the same... When I was there taking pics last week, I did not walk the whole area, and did not notice if one area was older than another. If I get out that way in the next couple weeks, I will see if I cant identify any separation in the cemetery. Anyway... hope this helps in your search :-) Take care Pat Portland,OR - Vancouver,WA Cemeteries & Photos
