    1. [ORMULTNO-L] Look up of Portland City Directory request.
    2. Graham Greenway
    3. Hello all, Would it be possible please for SKS to do a look-up of the Portland City Directory for my great uncle: Horace Arthur GREENWAY. Family belief is that he spent most of his life in Portland and from my research it seems that he may have died there in 1960. He was born in New Zealand in 1874 and apparently went to Oregon as a young man. TIA. Kind regards from Graham GREENWAY in Victoria, Australia.

See: http://arcweb.sos.state.or.us/banners/genealogy.htm See genealogy, Vital records, and under "Contact Us" you can e-mail a request to: reference.archives@state.or.us My experience - they were very fast and very reasonably priced! Thank you - Terri Portland street addresses changed a number of times. In 1932, the postoffice standardized the numbering systems. 395 E 15th N became 1835 NE 15th. This was an apartment house in 1932. 1. [ORMULTNO-L] Resources in Portland
    2. Linda, They might possibly have information at the Oregon Historical Society in downtown Portland. I haven't been there myself but hope to one of these days. Here is their website: http://www.ohs.org/ I also recently joined the Genforum of Oregon and might go there again on Thursday. I can check to see if they have anything. They have a lot of books and city directories. Their website is: http://www.gfo.org/ You might be able to e-mail either of them a question, but I'm not sure. What kind of information are you looking for? And another good one is the Multnomah County Library: http://www.multnomah.lib.or.us/lib/ You can go to "Ask Us! Online" and e-mail them a question. Often they have answered me within a couple of hours and if they don't have the information may tell you where to look. AND PORTLAND SYMPHONY Hi-- I have two requests :) First--- I need to know where to find information about carpenters who built the OLD PIONEER POST OFFICE in Portland. My grandfather--GEORGE LANDIS worked on the old post office in the late 1800's or very early 1900's--possibly as a finish carpenter. Second--- I would like to learn how to discover information about the PORTLAND (or Oregon) SYMPHONIC ORCHESTRA. My other grandfather, RALPH MAINWARING, played the trombone and possibly the coronet or clarinet for the Symphony Orchestra in the 1920's and possibly earlier (if it was formed earlier), and possibly through the 1930's. If someone could point me in the right direction or even do a look-up for me (if you have time) I would greatly appreciate any information you could share--I'm in Moscow, Idaho now and don't get to Portland as often as I'd like. Terri< 1890 City Directory lists three George Gordons, no Thomas' George H. Gordon, plumber, rms 94 Columbia George P. Gordon, carp., bds 60 N 5th George W. Gordon, carpenter, builder, contractor & wire screen maker, 214 3d, ne cor Salmon, re. 81 N West Park Frances is not likely to be listed, unless she was widowed or worked outside the home, and you don't give her husband's name. At a later time period, a wife's name was listed behind the husbands, but not in the earlier directories. And children are only occassionaly listed, unless they are grown and working, and still living at home - one can sometimes surmise a reltionship. 2. Greetings Everyone I would be willing to do lookups for anyone on the state of Oregon for towns, rail stops, stage stops, post offices, ferry landings and schools. The list I have compiled that has over 6000 of these listed. The list, however, is not complete yet. Some places may not be listed yet. If you need a lookup done please be as specific as possible on the name and include the county if you know it. I will answer these as fast as I can. If you have any Information that can be added I would be happy to add it to the list. I hope in the future to use this list to create a web page so it will be at every ones disposal. Thanks and happy hunting. Dean Armstrong gtpub@teleport.com http://www.teleport.com/~gtpub/
