I'm wanting to obtain obituaries for some of my MUTCH family. I was wondereing if anyone knew if obits could be accessed online for the years 1934-1961 Portland Area? Any help would be appreciated greatly! Anyone researching the MUTCH surname in Portland area, I would love to share information! Thank You Debbie
Would it be possible for someone to do an obituary lookup for me? According to the SSDI, this individual died in august, 1972, Troutdale, Multnomah, Oregon. I am making this request as a personal favor for a friend. She suspects that the individual in question may be her father whom she last saw when she was a child. Please contact me privately if you can help me or if you can refer me to someone who can. Thank you very much. Joan in Minnesota
In case someone didn't see it, the Oregon death index is now online at Ancestry.com for the below years. OREGON DEATH INDEX, 1903-70 Originally a haven for fur traders, Oregon became the thirty-third state in 1859. This database is a collection of individuals who died in the state during the years 1903 through 1970. Researchers will find information including the deceased's name, the place and date of death, the certificate number, the age at death, and possibly information concerning a spouse. This information was taken from a microfilm index compiled by the Oregon State Health Department. Source Information: Ancestry.com. "Oregon Death Index, 1903-70." [database online] Provo, UT: Ancestry.com, 2000. Original data: State of Oregon. "Oregon Death Index, 1903-70." Salem, Oregon: Filmed by the Oregon State Archives and Records Center, [1970-]. You can get those on microfilm at Multnomah County Library, at Oregon Historical Society, or if you need a later night source, Portland State University has them, as --I would imagine-- might other University libraries. There is an index to the Portland newspapers, on microfiche. You should check there before going through the papers day by day. It's available at Multnomah County Library, The Genealogical Forum of Oregon Library, and at Portland State University. I don't know if Oregon Historical has it - I've not used it there, anyway. It indexes only the (paid) full obituaries. If you don't find them in the index, be sure to check the paper anyway, presuming you have a death date. The ad-styled death and funeral notices sometimes have just as much info, but they weren't indexed. Message text written by INTERNET:ORMULTNO-L@rootsweb.com > Does anyone have access to the Portland City Directories? I am trying to determine when Ralph Reimers and Nellie McFarland McNulty were married. It has been suggested that I check the city directories starting in the mid-1920s to see when Ralph moved to the city and if Nellie was also listed. This might help me to pin down the year of their marriage. FYI - they both died in 1974 and I have no information on this "missing" aunt. I have requested their obituaries but am trying all avenues to locate information. Many thanks. Conni in Ohio< I have a 1923 on my desk - there are a number of Reimers, but no Ralph. Bernard and Nellie McNulty are living in Milwaukie (which is in Clackamas County). He is a plasterer. (I presume that the McNulty is a 1st marriage and this might be her?) The fact that she is in Milwaukie might mean they were married in Clackamas County. I was in Portland today and found the Portland City Directories in the Multnomah County Library at 10th and Yamhill. They're upstairs to the right in the periodicals. They also have the Oregon vital statistics (births, marriages and deaths) indexed on microfilm. I found my missing rellys in ten minutes. Now to the Oregon Archives for death ceritificates!! I am desperately seeking information on my "missing" aunt. Last night I received information that in 1962 she was living in Portland, Oregon. Is there anyone on the mail list willing to do some research at the local library for me? Here is the only information I have available to me. Nellie D. McFarland McNulty was married to her second husband, Ralph Reimers. I do not have a date or location of this marriage. Ralph Reimers is listed in the SSDI as having passed away in May 1974. I have requested a copy of his obituary from the library. I am hoping to locate information on where he is buried and hopefully additional information on locating my aunt. Nellie is not listed in the SSDI. Since she would be over 100 years old the odds are that she is no longer living. I would love to know a date of death if someone can locate it for me. Many thanks. Searching for information on my great aunt Mayme Martha STEAGALL. Her parents were Mary D'ARCY and Robert SLEIGHT (my ggrandfather). Mayme was born in McKenzie Bridge, Oregon on May 7, 1892. I don't think Mary and Robert were married. Mayme married Robert STEAGALL. They lived in California for awhile and then came back to McKenzie Bridge. Mayme died on June 22, 1967. Hello, Possibly you have already seen this, but thought I would pass on this handy tip for those who have not :-) Thanks Pat >>>>>>>>>>>> Date: Fri, 17 Nov 2000 18:39:38 -0500 From: MuntzC@netscape.net To: MEKENNEB-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [MEKENNEB] A Bit of Magic Do you know the "8870 Formula"? Using the 8870 formula to ascertain a birth date can be a tremendous help in checking tombstones dates. If a tombstone reveals that the deceased died May 6, 1889 and was 71 years, 7 months and 9 days old, but gives no date of birth, you can correctly arrive at the exact birth date by using this 8870 formula and quickly get the exact date of birth, without counting backward. 18890506 (died 1889 May 6) subtract 710709 (age 71 yrs. 7 mos. 9 days --------- 18179797 8870 (constant) subtract -------- 1817 09 27 (birth date--- 1817 Sept 27 Priscilla >>>>>>>>>>>> Portland,OR - Vancouver,WA Cemeteries & Photos GNINNAH's Family Tree & Genealogy Links Data Transcription Files /A>

To Graham in Victoria, Australia: I found a Horace A. GREENWAY in the Oregon Death Index. He died on October 17, 1960 in Multnomah County, Oregon. The death certificate is # 13437. A spouse is listed as Belva. I looked randomly in the city directories and found a Horace J. Greenway at 4324 N. Kerby Ave, Portland for the years1938, 1944 & 1952. If you feel this is your family member, I'd be glad to do a census lookup. Diana Portland, Or
