    1. [ORMULTNO-L] New to list
    2. Dear Listers, This morning I received a led on my Delaney family line. I think it is a Christmas miracle. I have: Nina DeLaney b. 1901 in Camas, WA; d. April 19, 1928 in Mesa, AZ; m. Mickel Tolosano on Sept. 26, 1919 in Portland; parents were: F. A. DeLaney who was born in New Hampshire and Bertha L. Sto...(last name is unreadable) born in Ohio. The marriage record says that Nina resided in Portland. I am wondering if Oregon has a searchable death index so that I might look for her parents. Anyone else searching for DeLaney's in Oregon/Washington? Merry Christmas. Anne Marie

    3. Thanks to all who responded to my request for info on the Farm. I would like to get whatever information exists on my ancestor that lived there. Some have suggested either the Troutdale Historical Society, and others the Multnomah County Archives. Has anyone accessed these records? Thanks Phil Noss

    3. > My ancestor died in 1946 and her certificate of death stated her residence as the Campbell Hotel at 530 NW 23rd Avenue in Portland. Can anyone tell me what this place was? Just a standard hotel? Thanks. Terri< Terri - A 1923 city directory has the following advertisement for it: The Campbell, Clare B. Garoutte and Cecile M. Ellison, props, Residential Hotel with Reputation for Service - 134 23d N corner Hoyt, Tel. ATwater 0881. So, it was not a hotel as we think of them, but rather one where people lived. A furnished apartment with maid service, and perhaps board was included. You might try OHS to see if they have info on it, or a photograph, if that's something you'd be interested in. 2. DC and Alice Allen
    3. I think it was just a regular hotel, or apartment building. I grew up not too far from there, although a little later than 1946. I don't remember any hotels, but plenty of big old apartment buildings, so possibly it was just an apartment. It's changed a lot over the years so not sure if that building still stands--lots of "yuppie" establishments in that area now. 1. [ORMULTNO-L] Check out Edgefield Mainpage
    2. Hi Phil. My grandmother died at the Multnomah County Farm, also in 1928. As I understand it this was a temporary housing facility where the people worked the farm for their room and board so they could get back on their feet. There is a prison next door so perhaps they supplied vegetables etc. I found information at the Multnomah County Archives in downtown Portland. Sorry I don't remember the address. They were very helpful, and we found the original admission register for her. Her death certificate led us to her cremated ashes at a local cemetery. This building has been several things over the years and right now is an Inn. My wife and I stayed there a couple of years ago. Very nice place. For a picture of it go to this web: sitehttp://www.mcmenamins.com/Edge/index2.html or click here <A HREF="http://www.mcmenamins.com/Edge/index2.html">Click here: Edgefield Mainpage</A> They also have book about the site for about $10. Try also the Troutdale Historical Society. Good luck in your hunting. He was an old man (88 yrs) and apparently senile at the time. My question: was this county farm a poorhouse for the indigent? Was it a public old folk's home? Incidentally, the man's name was ISAAC WILEY. He was born in Maine and came west in the 1880s. Does anyone have any info on him? Thanks Phil Noss

    3. Edgefield, built in 1911, served for several decades as the Multnomah County Poor Farm. Residents operated a self-sufficient environment, raising hogs, poultry, growing a variety of fruits and vegetables, operating a dairy, cannery and meat packing plant as well as working in the laundry, kitchen and hospital. In 1947, it was renamed the Multnomah County Home and Farm and in the late fifties the farm operation was eliminated. In 1962, the facitity was renamed Edgefield Manor and for the last two decades of operation, functioned as a nursing home and eventually closed in 1982. I believe that people who could not support themselves were sent there. Multnomah County Archives has records of the farm and will copy and send to you on request. Photos of the farm are available for viewing at: http://www.mcmenamins.com/Edge/history.html Linda

    3. Hi everyone, I'm trying to find any information on a Frank J. Rogers. This is my great grandfather. The following is what I have... He was born around 1891. He was in the military, I have a letter from Veterans Administration Facility, Portland, Oregon, Jan. 8 1935 in reply it refers to :3C-346,242 I don't know what this number is. It mentions a decree of the Circuit Court for Multnomah County, Oregon, entered January, 21 1921. He was married around 1918, a newspaper clipping with no date or newspaper name has the following, "ROGERS-MILROY - Frank J. Rogers, 27 Vancouver Barracks and Bessie L. Milroy, 26, 772 Hoyt Street". She was born in 1892, therefore 1918 for the marriage. They had a daughter Marjory Aileene Rogers in 1919 (my grandmother). Now the nasty bit, he was convicted of bigamy and served time for it. My great grandmother, Bessie smuggled their daughter into Canada. I have no idea what happened to him after serving his sentence. Any information on Frank J. Rogers would be great, my grandmother knows nothing of her father and Bessie would never speak of him. Thanks, Ron Field Toronto, Canada
