You might try the Oregon State Archives. You can e-mail them requests through this site and I've found they were very fast: http://arcweb.sos.state.or.us/banners/genealogy.htm Naturalization Information explained here: http://arcweb.sos.state.or.us/natural.html > Date: Thu, 18 Jan 2001 21:27:23 -0500 > From: realia <realia@bellsouth.net> > To: ORMULTNO-L@rootsweb.com> > Message-ID: <3A67A60B.1040008@bellsouth.net> > Subject: [ORMULTNO-L] Probate and Naturalization records >I've recently found an estate file number in the Multnomah County >probate index file for my Jonas T. I've recently found an estate file number in the Multnomah County probate index file for my Jonas T. Clink. Also, according to the 1920 census, he was naturalized in 1895 in Portland, Multnomah County. I'd really appreciate it if anyone could help me out and let me know where I need to send to in order to get his probate and naturalization records. This is my first time researching anything out west and I'm not sure where to write for these things. Many thanks, Wendy Clink
Are you sure that this is as innocent as it seems? I can see the where do you live, but what does it matter if you are male or female and what you do for fun. Sounds extremely like some sort of dodgy marketing exercise to me. Hi, Re: "Can't find H. Hdw. Co." Would looking under "hardware" stores in the Portland City Directory work? Or going to the "H" section? Often we head for the surnames, thereby overlooking businesses. Just a thought. Judith judikat@teleport.com
I accidently copied a page of the 1898 Directory that I don't need and would be happy to do look-ups from it or send it to someone who can use it. The last names run from HADELY, Elmer to HAINES, Manley Allen. shaunta

Thanks. shaunta < Some idea of a year would help to be able to answer the question, but. . . . City directories have in the introductory material (the first pages), a listing of all the abbreviations they used for any companies. There is usually a table of contents, where you should be able to find just what page it is on. For possibly better responses to queries, postings to a mailing list like this one or a message board such as GenForum should be as INFORMATIVE as the posters can make them. "Trying to find Joe Bleep in Portland" usually just isn't enough information -- and most researchers will just hit the Delete button when they see postings like this. I am noticing that many folks are neglecting to include DATES or, at least, a time range in their queries. If you make the subject line informative ~ it might catch someone's eye. Here's a fictitious example: Joe BLEEP, b. c. 1892 IL, m. SIX times, d. Portland c. 1947? Seeking descendants of Joe Bleep, Jr., born abt. 1892 in Vermilion Co., IL, son of Joe Bleep, Sr. and Eunice (_____). An only child, he reportedly was married six times and had children by all six wives. His last marriage, to Bethel Edna SKITTLE, took place in Gunnison Co., Colorado in 1941, after which the happy couple planned to move to Portland, Oregon, according to the Gunnison Country Times. End of fictitious example. Hope this helps some one just starting out who is wondering why no one ever answers their postings. . . . Diane Wilson Flynn
