RootsWeb accepts only plain text mail. That means that HTML mail, attachments, ``enriched text'', and a few other formats can't be sent to RootsWeb mailing lists. You can post your message if you send it in plain text; turn off the ``Post in HTML'' or ``Enriched Text'' features of your mail reader, or don't use any attachments. See http://www.rootsweb.com/rootsweb/listowners/html-off.htm for instructions on turning off HTML in most of the popular mail programs, or ask your ISP's technical support line for help. We've had to institute this policy because of the problems that accompany these fancy mail formats. Some people don't have mail programs that are capable of processing the special file formats. Even among those who do, different mail programs handle these special formats in very different and confusing ways. HTML messages pose special problems to our digested mailing lists. Most of all, HTML-ified mail and attachments place a considerable burden on RootsWeb's overworked machines. All in all, mail in this format produces a lot of problems for RootsWeb's servers and subscribers, so we find it's best just to use plain text. -- The RootsWeb staff

the Oregon Archives have death certs from 1906 forward, but have not been able to find Ed's. I appreciate your reply. I also got a list in the index from another list member, and found another Edward, which was my first ed's son and was married to Helen...it has the cert number and everything...I am requesting that, but do not know if I can get it since he only died in 1975 and I am not a direct line decendent of his...he was my ggrandmothers brother. I feel that Oregon's archives are the best setup and run in the entire U.S....they have email reference request and they are so helpful...I have gotten so much help from them that we all know each other by name, and they probably hide when I email them!!! I wish other states would ask for the setup that Oregon has...it works soooo well.I am sending this post to a bunch of other lists i subscribe to so that others can have the e-mail address for the Oregon state archives if they have Oregon research to do... Hi, I am working on my BINGMAN/BINGAMAN line. I have a Stephen Girard BINGMAN/BINGAMAN married to Dora Fowler in Salem, Oregon, but also lived in Portland. By 1920 they were divorced. There were 2 children: Fred (born November 1898) and a daughter (born October 1895). I found them in the 1900 and 1920 census which are difficult to read. Her name looks like Wilhelm or Nilhelm. In the 1920 census for Portland she appears as an actress in a musical comedy, but how big a part she played, I do not know. Since I live in Pennsylvania it is difficult to access resources in Oregon. I was wondering if anyone had any clues where to find informtion about this young woman (she was 22 in 1920). No doubt Portland had many musical comedies at the time. Might there be play bills, or advertisements in newspapers. I do not have a clue where to begin. I want to verify her name. Is there somewhere in Portland that has an archives for theater? Or is an historical society the place to contact? Thank you for any help and suggestions. Sidney

A test only. Thanks and sorry
Looking for any information on Petronella Griswold, born in Scranton Pennsylvania and lived in the Portland area in 1896. I believe she was Petronella Griswold before 1896 when she married Paul E. Keating. Is any one else searching Griswold's in that time frame for Portland? Trying to find possible parents. I have that Petronella and Paul were living at the Clifton or Chiflace House? Has anyone heard of this place? Can make out the writing on certificate for their child. thanks so much for any help, Cheryl Viger

Holland on the 2nd day of Jan 1880, emigrated to the U.S from Rotterdam Holland on the vessel New Amsterdam, arrived at Hoboken, New Jersey on 12th day of April 1914........ Marilyn Oregon
I am reposting and adding lists, hoping to make a match with someone. The following Lange girls were the daughters of Gustave Lange of Columbia co. Scappoose Oregon. I have not found any info on them and assume that they married... some of the family moved to Portland, OR and so I am posting to that list also. The family has a burial plot in the Fairview cemetary in Scappoose, Columbia co,Or. there are alot of lange's buried there: albert, anna, otto, fred, and anna are all the siblings of the "girls" and the parents, gustave and ottillie lange are there too. also fred's wife, bertha Uhlman Lange is there, and otto's son , charles is close by too. Gustave emigrated in 1881 and ottillie in 1880.In 1883 Gustave showed up in columbia county, and lived his life there. I do not know where he was before 1881 up to 1883...any way, i am listing the following "girls" of Gustave and Ottillie Lange, hoping that someone else is researching this line , too. Augusta Margaret Tillie Minnie Elsie Emma as i said, these are sisters of Otto lange, who was my great grandfather. otto and son Charles both died in 1967, and Charles was my father. I was 6 years old when they died, and so have little knowledge to go on- the certs/census' i have received so far only state that gustave and ottillie were from germany. Who did these Lange Ladies marry? Are there decendents out there that would like to trade info? thank you list, for reading this. gloriamlh@juno.com ________________________________________________________________ GET INTERNET ACCESS FROM JUNO! It was mentioned in Ed's 1911 obit that ED WILLIAMS married EVALETT COLLINS in Portland , OR in abt 1888. she was possibly eva collins hoffman or crandall when she married Ed because she was married 2 times and her first husband died young, and I think Ed was her 2nd husband. Are there any records in Portland for marriages that old? are there any indexes available on Or marriages from that time period? any info/ideas would help. Was there a Portland newspaper at that time? I know rootsweb is going off for awhile, so please email me direct if you can answer my questions. thank you , list. gloriamlh@juno.com ________________________________________________________________ GET INTERNET ACCESS FROM JUNO!
