To be eligible for a DLC, they had to have come before (I think it was 1852). . . .so he was a late-comer and so didn't get a DLC. 1. [ORMULTNO-L] surnames MINTO, KICHA, LAZARYSZYN
    2. Hi Listers! I'm new to this list, so please forgive any possible breach of "netiquette"! I'm looking for info on John MINTO and his family/descendents. He was born Alex KICHA (or variation of spelling) in Wetlina, Galicia (although his death cert says he was Austrian--political semantics, at best!). His wife was (Mary?) LAZARYSZYN. Anyone else out there searching for these names? Kathy Hutson Poultney VT

    1. [ORMULTNO-L] Isaac Hill DLC
    2. Hi Again -- Another mystery I am trying to solve concerns the Donation Land Claim (DLC) of ISAAC HILL. His name is given on maps from the 1880s as the owner of a DLC in NE Portland -- specifically Twp. 1N Range 1E Section 24. It is around 41st Ave. and the south side of Killingsworth St. The problem is that his name is not in the index for DLCs at the Oregon History Center for anything in the Portland area. (There is a man by that name with a claim in southern Oregon.) On the map of DLCs as of 1860, there are no claims shown in Section 24 of Twp 1N R 1E. Can anyone help me determine if Isaac Hill had a claim in that area? Does anyone know anything about Isaac Hill -- like where he came from, names of children, etc.? Thanks, Sue in Virginia

    1. [ORMULTNO-L] Waters Carman
    2. Hi Everyone -- I am hoping that someone has information about Waters CARMAN. He took Donation Land Claim # 74 (Certificate # 1663). It was for 326 acres in the northwest corner of Clackamas County, just a mile from the Multnomah Co border. It was in Twp. 2S Range 1E; today it is in Lake Oswego near highway I-5. Carman Drive in that area must have been named for him. From records in the Oregon History Center, Waters Carman was born in 1811 in Luzerne Co., PA and was in Oregon before Dec. 1, 1850. He married in 1852 to Mrs. Lucretia Gurney. This Waters Carman could have been the brother of Rachel Carman; who lived in Sangamon Co., Illinois in the 1830s. Rachel was born in 1814 in NY or PA and married Jacob E. Roll, and later his cousin, Pierson Roll. Parents of Rachel Carman (and therefore Watters Carman) were Jacob Carman and Mahala Golden. I am interested in Waters Carman and what he did after arrival in Oregon. Did he have an earlier marriage? any children? Can anyone confirm the connection to Rachel Carman and her parents? Thanks, Sue in Virginia

    3. Lon - I can check the Multnomah County Marriages - as soon as we unpack them. The Genealogical Forum has the originals - I think up to that date. If not the full record, we do have the indexes. But, as we're in the middle of a move, those are unavailable right now. When they're unpacked, I'll check. Might be a week or two. In fact in the church that I grew up in they had a Lents-Gilbert congregation. I would imagine it would be included in the Portland mailing area. 3. There have been two new additions to the Multnomah Co. USGenWeb page in the past week. First is a listing of the burials in the Escobar Pioneer Cemetery and the Gresham Pioneer Cemetery. The second is a growing set of historic pictures of Multnomah Co. including portraits of the founders of Portland. Links to these new resources can be found on the Resource page under Churches and Cemeteries and Miscellaneous respectively. Matthew Porter

    2. Julie Kidd
    3. Lynne - I looked up Knute Telin when I was at the GFO library tonight - they had an 1887, 1893, then a 1904 city directory so I checked those - In the 1887 city directory is the following listing: Knute Telin, tailor, Borquist & Reffling, res 5 3rd. [that would be Number 5, 3rd Street] Borquist & Reffling was located at 31 Washington Street, owned by Charles B. Borquist & Aksel Reffling. 1893 and 1904 he is no longer listed - I looked at the Forbes entries to see if there was a seeming connection, but could not find one. He is the only Telin listed. 3. >I am planning a vacation in July and was wondering where to locate records for Birth in 1912 in Multnomah county. Are they held at the court house, or somewhere else. I also need to know where several other records can be located in Lane County and if they are held at the State Archives in Salem. Specifically I am looking for Marriage and birth records for 1910 and 1912 and possibly any divorce records for about 1915 in Multnomah county. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Liz< Liz - There's a 100 year restriction on birth records - so you have to go through the Dept of Health for those - and pay a lot. You might look at newspapers as an alternative, though there is no index to births. Marriage records are available at the Genealogical Forum of Oregon library - they have the originals. Divorce records are in the circuit court office at the county court house. What records are available at the State Archives are all listed on-line - at: <http://arcweb.sos.state.or.us/welcome.html> Julie JulieKidd@compuserve.com http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/JulieKidd/
