Two suggestions: when you copy someone's message into your reply, please delete out all of the trailing junk and previous messages that have nothing to do with your reply. That would make it easier and quicker for all of us to read through the message and catch your point quickly. Also, please delete the standard subject line that the reply button inserts. They left Germany so that my grandfather (a Catholic) would now have to serve in the Prussian army. Catholics were drafted into the lowest ranks and given the most dangerous assignments. They decided that there was a higher chance of survival in America. Their reason for moving west was the same as for most people: cheaper land. I can't get to it today, but eventually all the footers will explain that if you have subscribed to either Marion County or Clackamas County, you will be receiving mail from both. If anyone has too much trouble, let me know and I can try and troubleshoot. We can always turn this off, if it gets too bothersome. If I get any bounced or error messages, I'll repost them and try to troubleshoot those also. Thanks! I got duplicate messages of this, one to OR-Marion and one to both. Doesn't bother me however. Whatever works. Verdena -----Original Message----- From: Linda L. Combining the mailing lists sounds like a good idea. Care
I have one Winkler in my family tree: Chuck WINKLER wed Ardyth Kay Ursula HOFFER, she was born Oct.21, 1954. I know they were in Coo's Bay, Oregon last year. Teresa (Spokane, Wa.) Sounds good. My Walker family was in Marion (1844) then Washington Co, some Clark Co. WA Terr, and I haven't found the rest. Lois Powell
I am all for the two Counties being merged. I have and had relatives in both for many years. Avajill@aol.com
What a good idea, Linda! My family was only in Marion County, but, my husband's family lived in Clackamas. So, this should be interesting. meoall@msn.com
Dear Linda: Sounds like a plan. I second any motions to go. Jim Jerman Shelton, Wa.
Linda :) If you can "pull off" uniting the Clackamas and Marion Co. Lists I would be more than grateful! I have family roaming about both of these--and Multnomah-- counties and it would be wonderful to post to just one list--and---you're right...we might just generate a bit more activity. I hope it works--Linda in Moscow, Idaho :)

I am searching for relatives of Callie Higbee. My sister visited her a few years ago in a nursing home in Salem, I think. My nephew, who lives in Aumsville, said he visited her also and he thought her son's name was Kit. The son was involved in the public school system at Salem. Callie was a granddaughter of Thaddeus Turk McJunkin and Turk was a brother of my great grandmother. Lots of McJunkin family history to share. Thanks Glenda Ramsey 524 School Street Melbourne, AR 72556 870 - 368 - 4943
Linda I think your idea is great !!! The more people on a list increases our chances of finding the records we are seeking. Glenda
Below is a note that I just sent to the ORClackamas mailing list. If this happens, this might be of interest to someone on this list. ~~~~~~~~~~~~ Since Marion County and Clackamas share many physical and geographical ties, would this list like to have the mail from that list forwarded. Marion County list is even quieter than this one, but with the combination, it might make for some interesting chatter. I know that many of my relatives lived in Marion County and worked in Clackamas County, and there are a few graveyards that were shared by both counties. I don't even know if I can pull it off, but let me know what you think. I would be like a mini-regional list for Oregon. As far as posting surnames, I think KNOTT or KNOTTS should be sufficient. A lot of people think that a KNOTT can't be related to a KNOTTS. I just wanted to make sure researchers kept their eyes (and minds) open for the different spellings. More later. Bob K.
