Brownsville Times Sept 13, 1912 TANGENT PIONEER IS DEAD Cass Scott, Oregon Pioneer of 1871 and Prominent in Political Circles Cass Scott, a well and favorably known resident of Tangent and prominent in republican politics of Linn county,died at his home shortly after one o'clock Tuesday morning. The deceased had been in poor health for some time and his demise was not unexpected by relatives and friends who were acquainted with his physical condition. He was born in North Carolinas in the year 1850 and moved to California when a young man. In the year, 1871 he moved to Oregon and settled at the Tangent. He was married in 1877 to Sarah McKnight and leaves his wife and four children to mourn his death. The deceased served for several years as clerk of the Tangent school district and was deputy county assessor for that section of the county for a number of terms. He was a member of the republican county central committee and was always active in the political affairs of the county. The funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at 1:30 at the Methodist church at Tangent. The remains were brought to Albany for interment.
