Brownsville Times Nov 21, 1913 Nathaniel Gray Rice, well known citizen and highly respected Linn county pioneer, died at his home four miles east of Brownsville, Wednesday night, November 19, 1913, at the age of 83 years, following a lengthy illness. Deceased was born in Kentucky in 1830, and came to Oregon in 1853, locating on the donation land claim where he died. He had resided there since, except for a period of sixteen years spent in Washington. He was married to Miss Elizabeth Montgomery, January 2, 1861, 52 years ago. To the union six children were born, as follows; George, Columbus and Fred Rice and Mrs. Anna Reese, of Brownsville; Mrs. Wolfe, of Dayton, WA, and Mrs. J. Roberts of Prineville, Oregon. Besides his children he leaves his wife and a large number of other relatives and friends to mourn his death. The funeral was held from the home at 1 p.m. today, Rev. C. F. Koehler conducting the services, following which interment was made in the McHargue cemetary near his home.
