    3. Brownsville Times Sept 27, 1912 PROMINENT PIONEER IS DEAD Hon. E.E. Upmeyer, a prominent pioneer citizen of Linn county residing at Harrisburg, died, September 18 at the age of 65 years. Deceased was born at Baltimore, Maryland, in 1847, and at the age of 5 years moved with his parents to St. Louis, Missouri, where his parents died shortly after their arrival. He came to Oregon 35 years ago, locating near Harrisburg, where he has since resided. Mr. Upmeyer was an active member of the Republican party, holding positions of trust, and in 1907 was a member of the State Legislature from this county. He was also active in business matters and at the time of his death owned much property. The last will and testament of deceased disposes of the property as follows: To an adopted daughter, Mrs. Dena Dixon, 105 acres, to a brother, Henry Upmeyer, 60 acres with the proviso that he contribute $25 annually to the Methodist church of Harrisburg, to each of two nephews, 40 acres with the proviso that they contribute $12.50 each per annum to the same church, to a sister, Dena George, 45 acres. His wife is to receive all personal property including $60,000 worth of lands, and to have the use of all the remaining real estate during her life time, after which it is to go to Willamette University for the establishment of a chair bearing the name of the donor.
