I've "rescued" an old photograph of Mrs. MARKS which was taken at the J. A. BRIGGS Studio in Pleasant Hill, Oregon. It does note that it is a "portable" studio so it is possible that the photographer was traveling about when the photograph was taken and it may not have actually been taken in Pleasant Hill, OR. The photograph appears to have been taken in the 1890's with Mrs. MARKS likely in her 40's or 50's at that time. In addition to her name, someone has also written "Willard MARKS Mother" on the back of the photograph. Based on limited research I believe that Willard L. MARKS was born 25 June 1883 in Lebanon, OR to parents James M. MARKS and Mary Pauline BLAINE. I believe that Willard MARKS died in 1961. I was able to find information regarding Willard L. MARKS in both the 1910 and 1920 census records for Linn County, Oregon: 1910 census records for Albany, Oregon: Willard L. MARKS, age 26, married 2 years, born OR, parents born IN, a Daily Paper Reporter Bernal F. MARKS, wife, age 24, married 2 years, no children, born MO, parents born IL/MO Fluella M. TURNER, Mother-in-law, age 44, widow, 1 child/1 living, born MO, parents born MO 1920 census records for Albany, Oregon: Williard S. MARKS, age 36, born OR, parents born IN, an Attorney Beryl F. MARKS, wife, age 34, born MO, parents born IL/MO Robert S. MARKS, son, age 5, born OR Not sure why the differences in Willard's first name and middle initial or his wife's first name, I guess it is just bad census taking! I am hoping to locate someone from this family so that this wonderful old photograph can be returned to their care. I would like a scan of Willard Marks' mother, if possible. I am a Marks by birth, descended from Bluford Brookins Marks. I have come across James M. Marks, the father of Willard, often crossing the paths of my Marks family. I suspect strongly there is a relationship. I don't have time right now to dig it out, but as I recall their immigrant ancestor came from Antrim, Ireland, just as my immigrant Marks ancestor. The following generations seemed to move to the same places around the same time, including to Linn County, OR. There are a lot of "coincidences." If my memory serves me right, Willard Marks served in the Oregon legislature. I do believe that the Lebanon Library has a file on this family. They might appreciate the photo. I'd be happy to have a copy of this photo, if for no other reason than I will have it to share if I ever connect with a descendant of Willard. Thanks.
