Lebanon Express May 1992 ELMER POWELL Elmer M. Powell, 86, of Lebanon died May 6 at home. He was the great great-grandson of Joab Powell, one of the first circuit riders in Oregon. Elmer was born March 26, 1906 to George and Patty (Gaylord) Powell in Berlin, Ore. He lived his entire life in the Lebanon area. He worked as a logger for many years for various firms before retiring from logging in 1968. He then did various forms of ranch work and owned and maintained his own farm in the Berlin area for most of his life. He enjoyed hunting and fishing in his younger years. He belonged to McDowell Creek Church. He married his childhood sweetheart, Edith Burrell, on May 8, 1927 in Albany. She survives. He was preceded in death by five brothers, Otto, Verle, Bill, Walt, and Earl; and one sister Lilie Poe. In addition to his wife, other survivors include three sons, Cloyd and Ron, both of Lebanon and George of Salem; two sisters, Ruby Crover of Milwaukie, Ore, and Velma White of Forest Grove; six grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren. Services were May 9 at Huston Funeral Home, which handled arrangements. Pastor Don Campbell officiated. Burial followed at Powell Cemetery at Berlin. Memorials may be made to the Lebanon Communtiy Home Health & Hospice and left at the funeral home.
