    3. Lebanon Express Feb 2000 RUSSELL C. ROSE Dec. 4, 1893--Jan. 28, 2000 LEBANON--Russell Clarence Rose, 106 of Lebanon died Friday at Villa Cascade Care Center. Mr. Rose was born in Lebanon to Harvey and Jennie (Gibson) Rose and, until his last few days, lived on his grandfather's Lebanon homestead that was founded in 1865. He married Nellie G. Meissner June 12, 1917, in Summit, and they raised six children. His wife died in 1986. Mr. Rose worked mostly as a farmer, but in his younger days he also hired out his service to Linn County, hauling gravel with a horse and buggy. Until he was 100, Mr. Rose raised a half-acre garden and sold corn and tomatoes. He enjoyed playing pool at the Lebanon Senior Center. Recently he reminisced about his teen years, when he saw the first airplane and the first automobile in Lebanon. Surving are sons Allan of Bend, Howard of Lebanon and Harvey of Milwaukie; daughters Marthar Hurst of Lebanon and Alice Gallogly of Sweet Home; 30 grandchildren; 63 great-grandchildren; and 15 great-great-grandchildren. Son Clarence T. Rose died in 1996 and a brother and three sister preceded him death. Mr. Rose's funeral will be at 2pm Thursday at Huston-Jost Funeal Home with Postor Don Preston officiating. Burial will be at the Lebanon IOOF cemetery. Contribution in his name may be made to the Senior Meals Program(including Meals on Wheels) or to the Lebanon Senior Center. They may be sent in care of Huston-Jost Funeral Home.
