I hope this is of some interest to someone who is doing Fruit research. **************************************************************************** ****** I found this artical in the Oct 1894 Lebanon Express this afternoon and I thought it was a good one. Times have not changed very much regarding Cougars. A GIRL KILLS A COUGAR A Crowfordsville correspondent of the Brownsville Times furnishes the particulars of the killing of a very large cougar by Miss Etta Fruit. Miss Fruit and her sister live alone on a homestead about two miles above Crawfodsville, and have been annoyed considerably of late with all kinds of varmints. A few days ago a hog imprisoned in a small pen set up an unmerciful yell and Miss Fruit suspecting something wrong, secured a gun and started out to make an investigation. She soon discovered the fact that a large cougar was endeavoring to make way with her porker, but a well directed shot laid the theiving animal out thus ridding the community of one of its worst pests. Miss Fruite differs from the majority of her sex inasmuch as she does not take fright at the mere mention of a mouse. ************************************************************ Acording to the 1880 Linn Co OR census I found the following family and I think Viletta is Etta.
