There were a number of women that worked at the mill. Many worked in what was called the battery seperator. The mill was started in the early 1940's, Some of the local business men and a couple doctors were involved in the financing of the mill to get it built. There were numerous families that came from the southern states to work in the mill. If I remember correctly there were over 600 employees and it was classified as "vital to the war effort". When I was a child, I remember the mill whistles from the paper mill and the plywood...CrownZ blew at 7am..12noon..and 5pm. The plywood blew at 8am...1pm..and 4pm. We could tell when it was time to go to work in the fields, eat lunch, and go home for supper. this has nothing to do with Mr. Schultz, just a "memory" about one of Lebabon's major industries.
