Today while searching for a death date and/or obit for Henry J. PETERSON, b. Virginia (now West Virginia) and d. Linn County, OR, I found an obituary for Dr. Asa Peterson, Henry's son, posted by Jane HUTCHINGS. Hopefully Jane or someone else who may know about the PETERSONs and PETERSONS BLUFF will respond to this. Henry J. PETERSON was born in what is now Pendleton, West Virginia, which was then a part of Virginia, about 1796; he was a son of William and Mary (BENNETT) PETERSON. In 1802, the PETERSON family moved to Harrison (now Lewis) County, (West) Virginia, where in February 1821, Henry J. married Eliza Allen. Thanks to a book "Genealogical Records and Sketches of the Descendents (sic) of Lawrens Peterson and Nancy Jones-Peterson, who Planted the Fmaily Tree in America Before the Revolutionary War", I know a good deal about the family. Because the book was compiled mostly by the family who had migrated to Oregon and Missouri, there are many holes in the story, particularly concerning the family left behind in West Virginia. That's where I come in. My husband is a descendant of William Bennett Peterson, one of Henry J.'s brothers. I am also transcribing and annotating and will cause to be published 145+ Civil War era letters written by various members of the family. Consequently, I'm seeking to learn more about the early family. At the moment I am looking for the death date and burial place of Henry J. Peterson. I find him living (in Linn) in 1850 and 1860. In 1850 he is listed with his wife, Eliza , and children Wm. A., Sarah, Marshall, Laura, Martha, Henry, and dau. Eliza. In 1860, I find Henry, Eliza and three children: Martha, Henry B., and Eliza in the household. Any help with this would be appreciated.
