The last entry again mentions his Scio area mill. I don't yet know who purchased the mill or what kind of mill it was. Linn County, Ore., Probate Book 1 Page 81 Oregon State Archives, Salem, Ore. March the 5th 1857 Joab Powell filed his bond and applied for letters of administration with the will annexed on the estate of Nathl McCartney deceased which was granted and recorded on 199 & 200. S.D. Haley, judge Apr 7th 1857 Joab Powell file an inventory of the estate of Nathaniel McCartney to the amount of $2,162.27 for which he stands charged. S.D. Haley, judge Aug 4 The above Administrator authorized to lease Real Estate. S.D. Haley, judge 1858 The above administrator applied for final settlement which was ordered on the first Tuesday in February[?] next. February Settlement continued till March ???? March ???? 1858. Settlement continued until the the first Tuesday in April next. S.D. Haley, judge April ???? 6th 1858 The above administrator came forward for final settlement and file the following report (????). Assets $576.50 Receipts to the amount of $249.93 Percentage to adm $126.57 Percentage to adm $26.32 Leaving a balance in the hands of administrator of $100.25 which he is ordered to return to the widow of the deceased. [Abigail M (Parker) McCartney] S.D. Haley, judge May the 4th 1858 Whereas the above administrator appears to have complete administration on the above estate and paid the residue in his hands as per order above to the widow of the deceased, it is considered by the court that Abigail McCartney Widow Carried over to page 114 Linn County, Ore., Probate Book 1 Page 114 Oregon State Archives, Salem, Ore. Brought over from 81 Widow of the deceased be entitled to the property of said deceased both real and personal, to use, or otherwise dispose of the same as she may deem proper, or to her interest. The receipt of Abigail McCartney widow of the deceased filed for the residue of the money remaining in the hands of the administrator it is therefore ordered that he be discharged from further liability as said administrator. S.D. Haley, judge July the 6th 1858 Whereas it appears that there has been sold for $600.00 the mill property of the above estate and no deed made to the same. It is ordered by the court that the above administrator is retained as such and ordered to make a deed to said mill property agreeable to contract. S.D. Haley, judge

    3. Hello John, I take it from your notations that Joab Powell was the administrator of McCartney's will? I am a descendant of Rev. Joab Powell. I am wondering what kind of connection the Powell and McCartney families may have had. None that I am aware of. Maybe they were just neighbors? The Powell DLC was over on what is now Richardson Gap Road. Or perhaps they traveled the OT in the same wagon train. Both Powell and McCartney families seem to have arrived early fall 1852. Anyway this is interesting. Thank you.
