Hope, one of Lebanon's oldest and best known citizens, died at his home in this city Sunday evening, Sept. 3, 1899, after a long illness, aged 74 years, 2 months and 10 days. Funeral services were held in the M.E. church this morning at 10:30 o'clock, conducted by the pastor, Rev. H.B. Elworthy, after which the remains were laid to rest in the Masonic cemetery. The following well known citizens served as pall bearers: C.B. Montague, R. Cheadle, B. Burtenshaw, J.G. Reed, J.R. Smith and J.M. Stokes.
