I would like a scan of Willard Marks' mother, if possible. I am a Marks by birth, descended from Bluford Brookins Marks. I have come across James M. Marks, the father of Willard, often crossing the paths of my Marks family. I suspect strongly there is a relationship. I don't have time right now to dig it out, but as I recall their immigrant ancestor came from Antrim, Ireland, just as my immigrant Marks ancestor. The following generations seemed to move to the same places around the same time, including to Linn County, OR. There are a lot of "coincidences." If my memory serves me right, Willard Marks served in the Oregon legislature. I do believe that the Lebanon Library has a file on this family. They might appreciate the photo. I'd be happy to have a copy of this photo, if for no other reason than I will have it to share if I ever connect with a descendant of Willard. Thanks. A. BRIGGS Studio in Pleasant Hill, Oregon. It does note that it is a "portable" studio so it is possible that the photographer was traveling about when the photograph was taken and it may not have actually been taken in Pleasant Hill, OR. The photograph appears to have been taken in the 1890's with Mrs. MARKS likely in her 40's or 50's at that time. In addition to her name, someone has also written "Willard MARKS Mother" on the back of the photograph. Based on limited research I believe that Willard L. MARKS was born 25 June 1883 in Lebanon, OR to parents James M. MARKS and Mary Pauline BLAINE. I believe that Willard MARKS died in 1961. I was able to find information regarding Willard L. There is a small book by Vale Vandivier McGrew, "Shelburn? It was there yesterday". It has a collection of pictures that tell about Shelburn. I also have a picture of the Shelburn store before the gas pumps were installed. There are horses and wagons in front. The school is not standing. It was last used to store hay. By then all of the adornment was gone. The pump from the school is installed at the Scio Museum near Thomas Creek. The well at the school was the only :mineral" well that I knew of in the area. The water smelled like rotten eggs. It was tested often but always got good report. If you think that your mother is in either of the two pictures I can enlarge and send that. My dad may have gone there at the same time. In those days there was a state test that had to be pasted to graduate from grade school. (At least that is what I've been told). Children often had to work, as my dad did, so graduation might be put off to an older age. My guess would be that he was still there in 1914. Irene Farmer

I have some information about him and his wife, Sarah Jane Williams (who after divorcing him married Nelson William McCoy) and I have information about his parents, particularly his mother, Jane Kelly Dill, which I will be happy to share. I have identified possibly 5 children of James and Sarah Jane Dill - Mary Jane b circa 1844 who married James E Bennet/Bennett; John R b circa 1847; Margaret b circa 1851 and living with Mary Jane and James Bennet in 1860; Robert b circa 1853 and Emma b circa 1855, both living with Sarah Jane and Nelson McCoy in 1860. If anyone has information about them or any other children of James S Dill, I would love to hear from them. I was given information that he died in December 1877 but I do not know where or where he is buried. If someone has that information I would like to get it. Thanks for the assistance.

This my line of Powells. The descendants of these Powells are not represented on the Powell DNA chart at: http://home.flash.net/~parino/powell-surname-dna-project.htm I thought maybe if I posted the names maybe someone would recognize an ancestor and submit their DNA for this valuable project. I am unable to understand why this family doesn't seem to want to participate, but I believe it may be out of ignorance of the project. Any questions you may have can be answered by someone at this web site. I hope you will consider being a participant.
