It is possible that women worked at the mill during WWII. My dad talked about one woman that stayed on named Gertie. In my mind's eye she tied her hair up like "Rosie the Rivoter" but the truth is that I'm not certain if I ever saw her. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Old names stay in my brain. We would have graduated from high school together had we not moved to Lebanon. Did you go to school with Linda Simms? I just looked at a Google Map of where my grandparent's lived. The property has been razed and is now all being farmed. There is a house at the bend of the Scio-Jefferson road (on the right hand side going out of town on the west). My grandparents lived probably a couple hundred yards to the west. Not really West Scio, more likely what you would call the west part of Scio. Sharon Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. This reminds me of a joke my grandpa used to tell... My mother and my uncle were born in the old hospital which, as you know, became the library. I was also born at the library. Did you know there was a nursing home across the street where moms and babies stayed until they were ready to go home? My mom and my little brother were there for a couple of weeks. I think it had a lot to do with the fact that there was a two year old and a one year old to take care of at home when she got there.
