I've just indexed some of the family history books available for research at the Linn County Museum in Brownsville. I didn't know if researchers know these are available. They also have a file cabinet with nearly all of the 1200+ donation land claim holders from Linn County, and many of these files contain information not found elsewhere. The family histories are in addition to cemetery records, census records, and a wealth of photographs. http://www.usgennet.org/alhnorus/ahorlinn/bhistories.html Linn County Historical Museum, P.O. Box 607, Brownsville, OR, 97327. The museum features historical exhibits, gift shop and video theatre. Hours: Open daily, Monday-Saturday 11-4, Sunday 1-5. Voluntary donation. A wonderful place to spend the day! Gaines Cemetery, located near Lacomb, is now online: http://www.usgennet.org/alhnorus/ahorlinn/cems/gaines.html Thanks again to Cathy Morgan!! Jan Phillips [email protected]
I've added a map of the Crawfordsville Union Cemetery showing the location of the tombstones and the direction I walked when surveying it. This map is really important because the cemetery is laid out in two sections and they way I walked it was rather strange. Row 1, stone 1 is located in the southwest corner of the left side of the cemetery, my starting point. Row 29 is nowhere near Row 30, but is the last row in the left section. Row 30 is the first row in the right section on the opposite side of the main road, located in the northwest corner. http://www.usgennet.org/alhnorus/ahorlinn/cems/crawford.html Hope it helps you understand a little better, [of course, it doesn't explain why I surveyed it so wierdly!] Since others rarely use these mailing lists, I have to assume everyone interested in Linn County, Oregon is satisfied with the historical and genealogical information on the web. If you have suggestions, drop me a line. Next to come will be Gaines Cemetery, thanks to Cathy Morgan. Jan Phillips [email protected]

Saturday, Sept. 25, at 9:00 a.m., there will be a tour of Fort Hoskins Historic Park. There will be displays of historic maps, photos, and other cultural objects planned by the representatives of the Confederated Tribes of Siletz and Grand Ronde. Other members of the committee will be on hand to answer historic inquiries. The Frantz-Dunn House will also be open. Built in the late 1860s, this Gothic Revival house is west of the site of the Ft. Hoskins infirmary. Future plans include an interpretive center with cultural treasures found during archaelogical excavations. The park is only open to the public at pre-arranged site visits and tours. The park is located in the northwest part of Benton County on Hoskins Road, 1.5 miles west of Kings Valley Highway 223. To reach Highway 223, take Highway 20 west out of Philomath. Jan Phillips [email protected] Oregon State Coordinator for the USGenWeb Project http://www.rootsweb.com/~orgenweb/
Hi, Thanks to Mary Conner, I've got a wonderful new page on the Linn County USGenWeb site, all about her ancestor, Daniel Morehouse's donation land claim. This page is slow loading with many graphics of the actual documents. I've tried to get them down to a reasonable size, but it is still slow, so be prepared... it's worth the wait for the photos to load. URL: http://www.usgennet.org/~orlinnco/morehouse.html Thanks, Mary!! Jan Phillips [email protected] Linn County USGenWeb Coordinator
