I'm new to this list and hope someone will be able to help me. I found Valera McDonald in the Social Security Death Index that died in January 1981. Her last known residence was in Shedd, Linn Co., OR. Does anyone have information on this lady. The one I'm looking for was the wife of August McDonald and her maiden name might have been Southwick. I would like to get an obituary for Valera to find out if she is the one I'm looking for. Thank you in advance for your help. Jeanette in South Carolina
Belle McKay, great grand daughter of Josiah Osborne and Margaret Findley, is my good friend. I have been helping her locate information about her great grandparents. Josiah and Margaret were surviviors of the Whitman Massacre(1847). Belle is now 102 years of age. She has had a most interesting life, with many stories, and experiences. Would enjoy talking with anyone who is familiar with her family. Her grandmother was Melissa Osborne Stennett We would like information on the Stennett family also. I have had excellent contacts with several family members, the Historical Site at the National Park, and The Walla Walla Genealogy Society. Thank you, Billie Groening

This Hall family crossed paths with some of my family members (I was struck by the names of the children as well). You'll find that they may have spent some time in Marion County, as they were living in the Gates area. The wife of Oak Dale Hall (and perhaps some of the others) is buried at Fairview (Gates), and there is a small amount of info about the family in the book "Fairview Cemetery/King's Prairie Burying Ground, 1883-1893". I wasn't able to locate Rodgers Mountain on a map but I did find that George Hall lived near Eli Rodgers on the 1880 Linn Co. OR Census. Eli C. Rodgers had a Donation Land Claim in the Scio area. The mountain was most likely named after this family. His claim was located about 3 miles east of Scio in the foothills of the Cascade Mountains. I was very intrigued by the names of George's children. Do you have the 1880 Census for this family? How about the 1905 Linn Co. OR State Census? For the rest who read this, George had the following children: Oak Dale, Elmwood, Beech Glenn, Spruce Vale, Iva Vine and others. If you don't have the above mentioned census, I would be glad to get them for you. Do you know where George and Ellen are buried? Linn Co. I'm new to this list, so please forgive me if this has been covered before. Rick mentioned the problem with Broderbund's CD(s) and other sources as well. I recently learned of another source of census information on CD: allcensus.com. It appears that the chief difference between allcensus.com and the others is that the CD you get from allcensus.com contains actual images of census pages; it therefore is not subject to later copying errors. Researching: E N G E L, A S C H E, M I L L E R, H O L T, M A I E R, OTHERS -- Cory C. Engel Engelhouse Graphics http://www.engelhouse.net/engelhouse/
Hey Gang, We all need to inform our fellow researchers of Broderbund's census information. 1) At GenealogyLibrary.com, the 1810 census information they present transposes the male and female columns. By that I mean, the first five numbers they show are for females, the second five numbers are for male. This is contrary to the actual census reports that list the males in the first five columns and the females in the second five columns. 2) I just learned today that Broderbund's CD312, Census Index for Selected US Counties, 1800, also has the male and female columns transposed. As a result of these findings, I would consider any Broderbund products that list census reports from 1800 to 1840 to be suspect at best. Please pass this information on to your fellow researchers. I sent an e-mail to Broderbund when I found the errors in the 1810 index, I received no response. This does not make their information useless, you simply have to reverse the columns. Rick Monroe
I would encourage everyone to PLEASE view this web site and sign the petition to help protect our cemeteries from any more destruction. It is already hard enough for us to fix the ones already destroyed, lets just keep them nice once we get done fixing them. I hate to do work twice. http://www.PetitionOnline.com/sg0001/petition.html Thanks. Michelle

Michelle needs to stop and smell the roses. Life is too short and too full of genealogy to worry about filling out the census twice. This is not the place to complain about it anyway.
