Sinclair Edward F. Sinclair, 87, of Newport, Ore., died Feb. 12, 2010 in Newport. He was born Feb. 9, 1923 in San Francisco, Calif. but lived most of his life in Portland and Hillsboro, Ore. He proudly served in World War II and the Korean War as a young man. He received a Purple Heart and several medals for his service. In his later years he wore a cap that said, "World War II and Korean Veteran," and when he was out in public, strangers thanked him for serving his country and veterans would stop and talk to him and swap war stories. He had various jobs over the years, but the job he loved the best later in life was being a high school math teacher for 27 years at Hillsboro High School in Hillsboro. His first wife was Mary, and they raised a stepdaughter and two daughters of their own. Mary died in 1990. In 1993, he married Betty and moved to Newport in 1994. They had 16 happy years together. He had many hobbies and interests he enjoyed over the years, such as putting radio and TV kits together, wood carving, reading mystery stories and watching horror movies. He enjoyed writing mystery stories for some of his grandchildren where "Grandpa" always ended up their hero. He enjoyed photography, doing cartoon sketches, hiking and crossword puzzles. He was quite a storyteller, and liked to talk to people and share his 87 years of life experiences. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife Mary; three younger brothers; and a daughter. He is survived by seven children, 19 grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. A memorial service with military honors was held Feb. 15 at Bateman Funeral Home in Newport. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
