He was born May 24, 1922 to John and Ruth Bruns in Raymond, Minn. He graduated from Raymond High School and on June 30, 1943, he married his high school sweetheart, Shirley Narrigon, in Raymond. He was a farmer while in Raymond, then a co-owner of a grocery store in Multnomah, Ore. He is mostly known as the manager of the Department of Motor Vehicles in Newport, where he worked from 1960 to 1984. He was a member of the Newport Elks 2105, co-founder of the 2105iers camper club and past exalted ruler. He and his wife loved to travel in their RV, and they traveled throughout North America covering all of the 48 lower states and Alaska. They also managed to travel through Canada and Mexico. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Ruth Bruns; his wife of 67 years, Shirley Bruns; and his brothers, Alvin and Brune. He is survived by his sons, Steven (Rhonda) Bruns, of Newport, Stan (Carole) Bruns, of LaHabra, Calif.; grandchildren, Terry (Joy) of Newport, Dustin (Amber) of Toledo and Cody of Newport; and four great-grandchildren. A memorial service was held Feb. 20 at Bateman Funeral Home, with interment at Eureka Cemetery in Newport. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of one's choice.
