He was born Dec. 8, 1944 to Madio Mura and Francis Gassaway in Yreka, Calif. He attended school in Mt. Shasta, Calif. through the eighth grade before taking time off to care for his grandmother. Later, he received his high school equivalent and attended Siskiyou Community College in Weed, Calif., where he received his welding degree. He worked in the timber industry as a logger, choker setter, mill worker and greenchain puller. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, beading and loved his family. He was an elder member of the Confederated Tribes of the Siletz Indians. He was preceded in death by his parents, Madio Mura and Francis Gassaway, a brother and two sisters. He is survived by children, Troy Robert (Teresa) Gaubats of Corning, Calif., Sheila Eileen Mura of Lakeland, Fla., Gina Maria Mata of Yerington, Nev., Lisa Beck of Lincoln City, and Christina Johnson of Redmond, Ore.; brother, Danny Louie Mura of Prineville; grandchildren, Kendra, Brenna, Michael, Danielle, Billy, Michelle, Ana, Madio, Katie, Jacob, Mathew and Jasmine; three great-grandchildren; cousins, nephews and a niece. A gathering will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Siletz Tribal Community Center in Siletz, followed by a reception. Interment will be at Paul Washington Cemetery in Siletz at a later date.
