Mr. Dearing was born Oct. 8, 1919 to Melville C. and Alice M. Marsten Dearing in Middletown, Conn. He lived in Palatine, IL as a boy. At age 13, he moved with his family to southern California after his father died. He lived in southern Californian until 1956. He married Charlotte Spiers on July 28, 1945 on an air force base in England. In 1956, they moved to the Toledo Newport area. Mr. Dearing was a general builder contractor for most of his life. He moved to a Portland care center about a year and a half ago. He enjoyed camping, fishing, and reading, and was a navigator and aircraft mechanic during World War II. He is survived by his daughters: Sally Dennis of Roseburg, Maggie Tough of Toledo and Elizabeth Lee Vanwinkle of Dairy; a son, John S. Dearing of Corvallis; sisters, Evelyn Lesley of Costa Rica, California, Alice Wiens of Pomona, California and Ruth Hodges of Rowland Heights, California, 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his wife, Charlotte, on November 29, 1994, and his son, Donald A. Dearing in 1978. Contributions may be made to an charity of one's choice. At the request of the deceased, private family services are planned. Arrangements are being made by Canby Funeral Chapel.
