She lived to care for her patients and her animals - horses, goats, cats, dogs, birds and any other animal in need of care, food or a home. In the medical field, she believed in cutting to the chase. She would go the extra mile to cut through red tape to get the best outcome for her patrons. She approached her professional life and home life in the same fashion, often sacrificing her own comfort in spite of having battled cancer since the early 1980s. She survived operations, chemotherapy, and a stem cell transplant. She fought to the end, seldom complaining, and was looking forward to returning to the Steens Mountains and being able to visit the Elephant Sanctuary in Tennessee. She visited the Steen's last summer, hiking to the very bottom, around the shoreline and climbed back up the mountainside. A celebration of life service will be at 4 p.m. Saturday, April 17, at the Newport Visual Arts Center, 777 NW Beach Drive at Nye Beach in Newport. Memorial donations may be made to a local cancer society or hospice of one's choice. Affordable Burial and Cremation in Newport is handling arrangements.
