She was born Dec. 12, 1912 to Axel and Mabel (Emberg) Johnson in Madrid, Iowa. She graduated from Luther High School in Luther, Iowa. She moved to Des Moines with her sister, Dorothy, and lived and worked there. On Oct. 29, 1936 she married Joe Chalmers. They moved to Rockaway, Ore. during the war and to Lincoln City in 1963. For the last 10 years she lived with Darren and Shannon Chalmers. She enjoyed cooking, gardening and reading. She loved to read to her great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed television, and her favorite TV show was "Cops." She always had a smile on her face, and never had a bad thing to say about anyone. She was sweet and gentle in everything she did. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Chalmers; granddaughter, Vicki Chalmers; brother Bill Johnson; sisters, June Beverly Borich and Dorothy Anderson. She is survived by her son, Richard (Lou Ann) Chalmers of Albany, Ore.; sister, Doris Clemons of Bemidji, Minn.; grandsons, Darren (Shannon) Chalmers of Lincoln City and Kale (Jennifer) Chalmers of Tigard; great-grandchildren, Megan, Owen and Bennett; and several nieces and nephews.
