He was born April 16, 1929 to Fred and Monte Mae (Dottie) Walters in Winslow, Arizona, later settling in Gladstone, Ore. He attended West Linn High School. He then enlisted into the Army Air Corps (now the Air Force) as a Radar Crewmember, and served from 1948 to 1952. He later attended Portland State University and transferred to Multnomah College to complete his education in electronics. Upon completion of college he went to work for Pacific Northwest Bell (now known as Qwest) where he would later retire in 1981. In 1955, he met and married his first wife, Jennie Lou McHone. They had two children, Jim and Mike. After his divorce in 1962, he accepted a position at NORAD, and remained there for four years. After working at NORAD, he returned to Oregon and returned to work at Pacific Northwest Bell. In 1967 he married his second wife Gail Joanne Ross, and remained married to her until his passing. She had two daughters, Kelli and Robin, whom he adopted and raised as his own. He had many hobbies. Among his favorite things to do were taking his family camping and fishing, taking apart computers and electronics and rebuilding them, flying his plane, and fishing. He also built a boat and trailer so that he could take his family and friends out on the river. He also enjoyed astronomy and looking at the stars. He was preceded in death by his son Mike Walters; brothers, Riley Walters, Mike Walters, and Johnny Walters; sisters, Alma Degler and Mert Seeger; and son-in-law Maurice Murrain. He is survived by his wife Gail Walters of Waldport; son Jim (Lori) Walters of Vernonia, Ore.; daughters, Kelli Murrain of Molalla, Ore., and Robin Bos of Portland, Ore.; sisters, Doris Farrington of Milwaukie, Ore., Bonnie Dame of Maupin, Ore., Maxine Butler of Milwaukie, Ore., and Kathy Spenner of Milwaukie, Ore.; 14 grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.
