She was born June 17, 1911 to James Franklin McCandless and Myrtle Iva Sinnard in Springfield, Neb. She attended college for a time before marrying William Klein and opening and running her own Jack and Jill Nursery School business. Her marriage of 59 years came to an end in 1988 when William died. Later, in her 70s, she married Harold McAlpine, who was 90 years old, causing quite a stir due to the age difference. She was an avid member of The Eastern Star and had completed all the tiers at both the state and local levels. She is preceded in death by her first husband William Klein, and her second husband, Harold McAlpine; and three children. She is survived by her two sons; one daughter; five grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren. Interment is private per family request. Bateman Funeral Home in Newport is handling arrangements.
